You don't need to be a civil servant to get close to government. And some 'aides' do get their own way. I suspect one who did is Munira Mirza, Director of the Number 10 Policy Unit, a former member of the Revolutionary Communist Party, and a Johnson sidekick when he was London mayor. There are more 'ex-' Trotskyists in high office than you can shake a stick at.

I doubt any of these were civil servants. They'll all be political appointees I would have thought.

Hardly, BD. Putin, as far as I'm aware, isn't a communist, let alone a Trotskyist. And followers of Lev Davidovitch weren't fond of the old Soviet Union, especially since that small matter of Stalin, Trotsky, and an ice-pick.
But it's old news that they turn up in the most interesting places, either as elected representatives or political appointees, e.g. The Brexit Party (Claire Fox MEP) and PM (Anthony Charles Lynton Blair). So, they are spread across the political spectrum; except the Left, which is where everybody thought they were.

Maybe at the moment the question to be asked is who is running the country, is it Johnson or Cummings?

Boris sticking to what he does best, getting the right people in and giving them enough rope so they can do the job properly. (or hang themselves!)

Maybe another shuffle in the pipeline or maybe not, it all depends on how many feathers Priti Patel has ruffled. I guess the upside for someone is they will be getting promotion, be it deserved or not.

Well he wouldn’t do the buy off Bob, so little doubt he’s on a mission.

That was certainly the impression I got Paul, also that he was someone who liked getting his own way.

As opposed to Patel presumably, who doesn't like getting her own way.

I bet she is just as bad that is why they clashed but in that statement interview he did not give me any reason to sympathise with him.

The government 'will pledge to triple the average net investment made over the last 40 years into rail and road, affordable housing, broadband and research.'
Looks like Labour landed the Chancellorship after all:

Yup. But nobody actually trusted Labour to deliver.
The boy done good.
