Well it's all starting to settle down now, Charlie I'm sure will be satisfied with his lot, but across the water how will Labour be viewing it all?
Once the election was up and running people were asking who is S Blair? I had no idea, and so really to get 20,000 votes she, and the party should be happy.
Also bearing in mind Labour had been written off by many, which makes her result that much better.
Stacy has since sad she has got the flavour, and hopes to give it another shot(which is likely to be within the year)
Will Labour take the same route of selecting candidates by CV's or have a more democratic selection?
How will Labour be fairing in a year?

Agree that Stacey should be selected by the Regional party Keef but with their track record they will leave it late again making it harder for her to get known to the general public. Charlie is on a downward spiral despite him rebuilding the railway line in a hard hat and hi-viz jacket. My Tory friends see him now as smug and unapproachable preferring just to pose for photographs. Too many people have bemoaned him for not replying to constituents letters for there not to be some truth in it. I did see an exchange where someone asked for help about bullying from an employer and got the reply "get another job then".

There is no time for the democratic process Keith the Labour party tend to move as quickly as a tortoise on beta blockers. They have a good candidate and the party is on a roll so why rock the boat when it is not sinking?
Alternatively they could choose Mike Eddy to woo the electorate.

Latest epistle from our Honourable member.
I am incredibly proud to have been re-elected as Member of Parliament for Dover and Deal. It was humbling that over half the voters supported me in the ballot box. The Conservative vote share here rose to 52.4% while the majority increased to 6,437.
Thank you for your support. When I was first elected seven years ago, I said my ambition was to make Dover and Deal once again a jewel in the crown of the nation. I meant what I said back then. And it’s been an incredible journey. Together we have achieved so many things they said were impossible. We saved the Port of Dover from being sold off to the French or whoever. We built a New Dover Hospital after Buckland Hospital had been decimated for a decade. We tore down Burlington House – new cinemas and shops are now rising at the St James site.
Meanwhile Deal goes from strength to strength. We safeguarded Deal’s Hospital which had been left teetering on the edge. They said Deal was a “village” unworthy of the fast train – today that fast train sweeps into Deal all day, every day.
Some £500 million of investment has been secured for our community since 2010. We have been working tirelessly to reverse the neglect of the previous decade. Yet I know how much more there is to do. I set out a clear plan for our future in this election.
We must ensure our borders are as secure as they can be and be ready on day one for Brexit here at the Dover frontline. We’ve delivered a lot of investment since 2010. I want to see even more – starting at our port. We’ve achieved a lot on jobs. Yet I am passionate to do all I can to boost business and employment. And we must keep working to get a fairer share of healthcare. We fought to safeguard our hospitals, now we must fight to stop health chiefs sneaking key services back to the faraway big hospitals. We need to get beds at Buckland and improve mental healthcare – and help the most vulnerable.
I’m determined to drive forward the changes we need. Everyone knows Brexit will present challenges – but there will also be real opportunities to build the sort of Britain we want. Where we support small businesses, help people buy their own homes and where hard work brings rewards.
A Britain where we build a renaissance of our towns and regions, with places like Dover and Deal leading the way.
Last Thursday was another momentous night in British politics. It’s clear we must be united and work together to deliver certainty for the country. To respect the will of the people and deliver Brexit. Yet we must also plan ahead to build a Brexit Britain that takes our nation forward to an even greater future.

Apart from Brexit he just seems to be quoting the same spiel from his 2015 election campaign. Nothing new at all. It is very hard to justify his salary.

Unusually I don't share your view.
There are a few that could make a challenge on our Charlie.
If Labour started now it could select it's candidate, of course if M Eddy was selected through this process I wouldn't vote for him but it would at last have given the party members the opportunity to vote for a candidate.
I know that Charlie was terrified of G Cowan standing as he must have felt he was a threat.
This is not about taking anything away from Stacy, but I hope she would support a democratic process of including all it's members on selecting a candidate.

I can't see Howard's assessment that Charlie is on a downward spiral when he took over 52% of the votes, well up as a share from 2015.

I can't recall a selfie of Charlie tearing down Burlington House; did I miss it?

We can all interpret statistics differently, yes Charlie did get a 9% improvement in vote share but then so did the Labour candidate who was largely unknown. UKIP got around 20% last time but only 3% this time.

Post#9.I see figure of 52% is mentioned.
Strange that's the majority figure of the result of Referendum 23rdJune 2016.
As Roosevelt would have said, a figure that would had gone down in,infamy for Remainers.

So moving back to Labour, and getting prepared.
I hope that locally they are going to organise and have an open selection and soon.
Giving all members the opportunity to go for the selection.
That way would give people more confidence.

If you're not a Labour Party member (as you repeatedly tell us in your sermons) why do you care?

With the collapse of UKIP and the Lib Dems not looking to to gain much in Dover together with the Greeens a protest party.
Charlie boy will need a strong candidate to take him out, it will be interesting to see how the one party able to do so how it selects it's candidate

A bit of grammatical and orthographical gardening wouldn't go amiss here, methinks.

Only one party in Dover likely to overturn Charlie's majority, should another election be called.
UKIP, Greens, Lib Dems, shown to be small protest parties.
So I hope Stacy will urge the party to go now for an all members shortlist, to enable the best candidate to be ready to take on Charlie.
