Looks like they are forced to cave in now after ditching the cuts in heating allowance and the triple lock pension.

Apparently the pay cap "could be reviewed". The Autumn Budget is a long way off and will, if it gets in, still not necessarily be introduced immediately.
Let's just think about Nursing. As a country, the government have abolished Nursing Bursaries, therefore our citizens/subjects have to PAY for their tuition. Whether they pass or not, they have a student debt. If they pass and pursue a nursing career, they then get a band 1 hourly rate of £7.80 per hour in England (worse in Wales and NI) {source:
https://www.rcn.org.uk/employment-and-pay/nhs-pay-scales-2016-17}.
Isn't it obvious why UK nursing applications are nose-diving?https://www.theguardian.com/education/2017/feb/02/nursing-degree-applications-slump-after-nhs-bursaries-abolished
Isn't it obvious why NHS trusts go overseas to recruit?
Wasn't BREXIT supposed to reduce the need for foreign workers taking away British jobs? Strike a light!

Well, that apparent END TO AUSTERITY was short lived. 323 MPs voted against giving the police and fire services more than a 1% wage rise and - to rub salt in the wound - (many of them) cheering the result.
Post #1 is yet another example of the empty promises made by the liars on the government and Tory benches.

Ministers jockeying into position over a possible leadership challenge and MPs mindful of being elected the next time, the end of austerity looks nearer. Costing a small fortune paying agencies for NHS staff while paying higher wages would retain present staff and help in recruiting more.

No it is not. Remember our (sic) NHS is the forth biggest employer on the planet.
The total agency bill would pale into insignificance compared to a 1% raise for all employees.
Public service employees are STILL doing better on average than those outside.
The country can't afford to pay them more just on some stupid sentimental whim expecting later generations to pay.

Pay a nurse more and she/he will spend it here on their debts, the high street etc. A whim? Sometimes Capt Haddock I think you actually believe your own propaganda.

Perhaps if we
a) stopped subsidising the profits of major corporations through the use of the tax credit system to underpay their staff
b) closed all the tax avoidance loopholes
c) had a grown up conversation, rather than the childish one our politicians and media encourage, about the future of the NHS
d) had a fact based conversation about where, when and who benefits should apply to and how much they should be
We might then have sufficient funds in the treasury to entertain sensible conversations around public sector pay, terms, conditions and pensions.
Or we could carry on with the "he says, she says" nonsense we have had for 20 years and get nowhere.

Looking at this in a positive light if teachers pay is kept low it means that less subjects and extra curricular activities are likely to be axed.

I once asked one of my curates about the boiled egg I gave him. He gave a more plausible excuse for an answer that yours, Mr McSweeney1.

I caught these on the car cam down the lane on the way out this morning.

Those lovely hounds out for walkies and bikes are easier to control and cheaper than horses.

Temporary accommodation varies and could be a self-contained flat or a room in an emergency hostel or B&B, and most families (74%) stay in one place for more than a year before being re-housed.
There is a six-week legal limit on families living in B&B rooms, although from January to March, 1,290 families spent more time than this due to housing shortages. Austerity has consequences.

The Trussell Trust said school holidays saw a 10% increase in people using its food banks.
Austerity has consequences - is it right that children carry the burden?

People who run food banks say there's ever more need for foodbanks. Now there's a surprise!
I seem to remember how necessary it was that Kids Company expanded a while ago according to the people who ran Kid's Company.
It's what they do!

My mistake. Obviously every food bank receives £3,000,000 of government/our money whenever they ask for it.
How about comparing apples with apples?
