The party tipped off the press before telling me of my suspension. I am not aware of what the alleged claims are and deny any wrongdoing.

I was just about to post the Britain Elects tweet on this.

Met Charlie and chatted to him quite a few times in town over the years and I like to think am a good judge of character. Hard to imagine him as a predator or even putting it in to soak in the wrong place, hopefully this is just something that will blow over(no pun intended}.

Am told @CharlieElphicke was reported to whips not long after @theresa_may became PM. Woman who reported him didn’t want to involve police

Hopefully you won't have to re-evaluate your character judging skills.
I mean. There's no way a tory MP could possibly be at all predatory. That's not their whole ideology at all, is it?
They never stick their fingers into anything where their fingers are not wanted right?

what is it with small men and power? or for that matter plain/ugly men and power?
do they not get that we are no longer in the 60's or earlier?

Leaving aside the credibility of the allegations, the way this has been handled has been pretty severe. I can imagine the mood in the Tory party at the moment is pretty toxic. Charlie Elphicke, whatever you thought of him, was the classic ultra loyal backbencher - to have been hung out to dry so publicly will upset many.

So the claimant is not named but the accused and, by association, his family are.

The previous chief whip got rid of the Defence Secretary and was given his job, two days later the new chief whip goes a step further and reports our MP to the police. I find it hard to believe that much new evidence of wrong doing came in such a short time.

if an MP can bum a cheap immigrant rent boy and give money for coke and still survive, charly has nothing to worry about.

This is what happens all the time for so many especially if they are media fodder like Charlie. The law should change to protect the person until they are about to be charged whatever the crime.
To suspend a person from the party and notify the media before the person concerned is notified stinks of being a personal vendetta or internal backbiting politics.

The allegation (and it is, of course, only that) has been around for sometime. Personally I don't doubt for a second that the lovely Theresa was aware of it. Had it been blatantly vexatious or implausible, then she would not have authorised his suspension or, even more significantly, reporting the matter to the police.
Quite why she chose to do it when she did is a subject ripe for discussion!
I feel more sympathy for the town and it's people. Between our Mayor and our MP we certainly do attract nationwide publicity.

It was reported last week that the PM is briefed weekly on who is being naughty and who with. It seems that the information is used to ensure vote loyalty rather than any concern for the victims.

I too feel mortified. You can see why I and others like howard mcsweeney1 write under a nom de plume and the good residents of River want the direct stage to Canterbury reinstated. The sooner the constituency gets re-named 'Dover and Deal' or 'South Thanet Hundreds', the sooner we'll be able to share any shame around.

This has made international headlines, just been out and about with a Saudi radio station drifting over the border and heard the Arabic punctuated with a very phonetic "Charlie Elphicke" .
What a word we live in; accusations into a hitherto unknown Hollywood producer end up with Charlie Elphicke suspended barely a week later. Crazy.

This is getting silly. Back from town to find carer with telephone number of 'some journalist from the Sunday Telegraph', could I 'phone him back. 'What had I done this time?', she glared.
Needless to say it's a 'fishing trip' about our Charlie wondering whether I had any idea of what it's all about.
Whilst sorely tempted to make up some tale involving bestiality and the HofC 'Dog of the Year' I restrained myself! So taking things at face value even the reptiles don't know what the accusations are.
