Getting back to the thread title, of course political parties at general elections should select there candidates as early as possible.
I hope labour nationally thinks strongly about not imposing a woman candidate on Dover.
The last time they did it women across this ward said they just wouldn't vote as they felt everyone should have the opportunity to stand and the best candidate chosen.
If Labour is serious on taking Charlie out(which will take a lot to do)
then these W.O.S. won't help them achieve, it will have the opposite affect.
If the local chair of labour believes in local communities as he stated at a recent trades council meeting then he will listen to what local people are telling him and his party.
Or will they learn the hard way?

Will be a disaster if they take that route, we all know the effect on the vote that had in 2015. Mrs Thatcher got to the top of the most socially backward party over 40 years ago without needing any help.

It's interesting to see how 'our' Charlie has been successfully raising his media profile since he set up his Home for Retired Journalists at CEHQ.
Regular Twitter output, articles for Conservative Home, TV appearances including Newsnight, even quoted on front page of Telegraph yesterday etc.
Is Charlie's star in the ascendancy or is it like David Frost of whom it was said in the immortal line of Kitty Muggeridge “I suppose you could say that Frost has risen without trace.” ?
Labour will really have to do better than putting up some random personable neophyte against him solely on chromosomal grounds promising unicorns for all, paid for by our children.

Positive discrimination is wrong and only creates resentment.
Nobody should be chosen because of their sex or race be it as a parliamentary candidate or any other job, it should be are they the right person for the position or not.

And Mr E is now on the Treasury Select Committee, Captain - whereas your new bestest friend, Mr J R-M is, some might say fortunately, not.

My understanding is Dover lab members don't want W.O.S so why is the national party pushing it?

Charlie manipulates the media cleverly for his own ends even getting articles published in the "Sun" which has mass appeal for bell ends. Equally clever on social media he usually turns out a couple of posts a day on Facebook saying how wonderful life is under his party in Dover/Deal and the rest of the UK. Should someone disagree he never replies and anyone who pushes it gets blocked.
Then we look at the main opposition party who have not even chosen a candidate so they leave Charlie a clear run at goal.

Charlie clearly has a clear run at goal, but he often misses open goals.
Only one party is able to get anywhere near taking charlie out, but if they impose a candidate al likely to be lost

As you have stated the Dover & Deal Labour Party have voted to oppose a female only shortlist and I understand are in the process of appealling this to the Labour NEC. They have a number of decent local prospects to be the PPC but need to pass this first hurdle in order to get to choose their own preferred candidate.

See #12. If it was me I'd certainly do it just for a laugh. The humourless lefties wouldn't know what to do for fear of offending the ever growing transsexual community!

The business of 'identifying as female' has certainly taken off in high places on the other side of the pond, with no 'gender reassignment' required:

Interestingly, this year, when in the rest of the country the Conservatives faced a bit of a backlash, in spite of Dover being listed as a Labour target, Charlie Elphicke held it with an increased majority of 6,437.
Boundary changes bringing Sandwich in to the constituency should only make 'our' Charlie's position even safer though making Craig McKinley's even more marginal.
The idea of any of the local usual suspects making much of a dent in his vote is wishful thinking on Labour's part.

It will be difficult to get Charlie out with the manipulated boundary changes.
But at least labour shouldnt shoot itself in the foot before the election is even called

Boundary changes have not yet been through Parliament & considered highly unlikely with present voting numbers. So expect status quo.
