DDC have amended their councillors listing, where it used to say someone was independent it is now the thread title, Peter Walker is the latest addition.

It is not known whether he has fallen in his sword or been debagged, if the latter then he is guilty of being a certain age and not realising he was using terminology not acceptable today.

I thought he was suspended pending investigation, regardless, age Is no excuse for outdated racsist turns of phrase. Even if his wife did once star in an Agatha Christie play!

I have read the Council agenda for this coming Wednesday .I see Cllr Richards absence is up for review .If he is able to travel up toLondon and is a football scout then he is well enough to attend meetings .He is currently being paid .He cannot be sick and needs a medical certificate. He was well enough to appear in his .shop Buckland residenrts have not been represented.

I don't think he is too bothered, if he can afford to travel on HS1 each day he must be on a good earner in London.

In principle he should resign.

"2.6 On 15 November 2018 Councillor N A G Richards’ will not have attended a meeting for six consecutive months and accordingly he will cease to be a member of the authority on that date in accordance with section 85(1) Local Government Act 1972 "
No real point in resigning now Sue, do they still get their allowance whether they turn up or not?

I B well hope not.

I guess they could say they might not have attended meetings but had still been helping people.

Reginald on P Walker I'm with you
what was worse was the leading lights of local labour trying to defend it.
on The other guy, it's quite natural for anyone who sits on any council once not attended a meeting for 6 months to put it on the agenda whether to give the Cllr dispensation.
There is no such thing as sick leave for cllrs they are not employees.
But with his publicity over the past few weeks/months I don't think he will get much support
he is paid the allowance for the year whether he attends meetings or not

Agreed Brian. We all know the size of 'nothing', I though it might be helpful if we also knew the 'size' of the money?

Could possibly do an even better job without having to toe the party line Sue, such a pity that local Government even down to town/parish level is run on party political lines.

just my forecast, but I think we may see Mr Richards maybe have a go, and run for Canterbury one day if he pleases
Labour know its game over in Dover with the boundary changes.

#18. No chance. Nathaniel has had it up to the neck with party political crap and I am pretty sure he won’t go back into politics at any level.
