It states that the article was published in July 2014.
If we want to stop this in the future, then we must have the referendum in 2017 (before, if practical) and so I would urge everyone who hates the taking advantage of our welfare system that obviously goes on, to vote Conservative on Thursday.
No one else can stop it, no one else will have, or be able to have, a referendum.

Sorry Brian, it's not a non-starter, it will be held; the People will decide whether we stay in, or leave the EU. It is one of our main pledges and has been for some time.
The Tories have got most things right over the last 5 years, especially on the economy and employment/unemployment and the NHS will once again become the best in the World - that it once was.
Speaking to working people whilst doing the canvassing, they simply do not want their hard-earned money and tax being paid out to people who don't want to work.
Some parts of the welfare aren't done properly (to my mind), but as we become stronger, the more onerous ones, I expect, will be relaxed.

you say ,,,,The Tories have got most things right over the last 5 years,

As we are a member of the EU this country had no choice but to let them in regardless of which party was in power.

An EU that Farage Atkinson etc have made a very lucrative living out of and contributed nothing to!

Roger, the reason people don't 100% believe that is because of the 'cast-iron' pledge that there would be a referendum after the last election, which wasn't so cast-iron after all as it turns out. They also have doubts about it being on a revised relationship with the EU which has yet, and might not, be achieved.
But if we end up with a Labour government and unelected Nichola Sturgeon pulling Milliband's strings (don't forget she isn't even standing for Parliament so how the hell does she get so much say?) there won't be a need for a referendum, there'll be riots and revolution with England declaring UDI from everywhere

Martin P, don't forget the biggest EU freeloaders, the Kinnock dynasty - can you name anything they have achieved for the millions they have received?

Only difference is they are not campaigning against it while getting rich on the proceeds.

I understood that the last "referendum" we were refused to have, was to do with changes to a treaty or rules and it wasn't felt that they were important enough to have a referendum; I didn't agree with that thought, that is why I am so pleased that the new referendum will actually go ahead, whether Dave wants to stay in or not - it will be OUR choice.

You kept saying that about DTIZ Brian and we have worked hard to get that moving and it is self-evident that it has started and it won't be long before BH is down.

DTIZ should have been open for business 10yrs ago, maybe if you had all worked a little harder it might have been so, and in all fairness Roger It hasn't actually started yet

Should Dave and Nick share power again as seems likely Dave would drop the referendum in order to get Nick to approve something that the yellows would normally rail against.

The conservative government could have declared an emergency and postponed opening the doors to Romania and Bulgaria. But putting British worker first isn't a priority.
And it was the conservatives that put Romania and Bulgaria for would for EU membership.
