what you neglect to understand bob,99% of people already pay insurance via N/I payments, either weekly/ monthly. so no need for an extra expence of health insurance.

No doubt about it, the NHS has certainly had a huge amount of ideology thrown at it since the 70s, and that is why it's in such a state. Intentionally. 'It is murder, Watson - refined, cold-blooded, deliberate murder.'

National Insurance is a total misnomer. It is just another TAX. It is NOT a hypothecated tax - it just goes into the Treasury for general spending.
Total take from NI in 2017 was £130.5 billion BUT NHS spending was £124.7 billion alone AND NI payments are also 'meant' to cover other outgoings including pensions which alone came to £111 billion on pensions!
Now I'm no mathematician but ........................

What the NHS needs is someone at the top who has common sense, knows how to run an efficient business and also has the guts to implement the much needed changes.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

# 20 Cap'n, maybe you should have a read of the following. Even one of your Tory heroes is happy to describe those indolent, under-employed NHS staff as 'wonderful' (sic!) when the need arises. Perhaps you should resign in protest?
