my newest councillor peter wallace has been involved in running street surgeries to see if he and his fellow councillors can be of assistance of assistance to constituents.
last sunday he and councillor sue jones were in malmains road and church road maxton.
this coming saturday the 26th peter and sue will be joined by newly elected kcc councillor pam brivio at morrisons's cafe between 10 and 11 a.m. meet them in the foyer.
no excuse for saying that councillors are only interested in you at election time.

i don't think peter, sue or pam sent out the invitations keith and for the record albania has as much chance of joining the e.u in the near future as china has.

I am more exercised by the use of the term 'constituents' in #1, than the redoubled promise of assistance. And even then I am at a loss as to just what assistance might be on offer. [This is as true in my own circumstances, here in sunny Hackney.]
I do doubt that Councillors can match their assistance to their election 'pledges';increased inward investment, lower taxes etc.
Do they then offer themselves up as an alternative route into the workings of the Council?
If a 'constituent' is getting nowhere in their dealings with any arm of The Council, just how may consulting with a Councillor help?
I suspect that if the Councillors were to advertise their effectiveness in the resolution of public problems, in one or other of the many ways Councils impinge upon the every-day matters of 'constituents', the Council's own efficiency would come into question. Is it this that heaps the onus upon the 'constituent', of pre-knowing whether a consultation would be worthwhile?
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

disagree tom many people don't know where to start with their council and others give up once they are given 10 options to start with on the phone, a councillor can be very effective in getting individual problems sorted, keef was very good at that.

I can confirm Howard that you are 100% correct. In a previous life as a principle officer of DDC I can assure you that any query from a councillor would more or less receive immediate attention and acted upon accordingly. This was always normal practice, regardless as to whether or not you thought the councillor involved was as thick as two short planks or was a bit of an oddball...........yes, we did have some!

Are surgeries really necessary ? I am available to any of my constituents any time of day, not just once a month.
I can be contacted (and am) via a phone-call, an email or by calling round to see me.
