Looks to be linked more to distrust of the establishment than anything else.

I can never understand how the far left can gain the confidence of people when they behave as the far right. Echoes of Dover here.

Does history teach us nothing? Austria of all places.

You are right of course your grace the Freedom Party was formed by Nazis and that awful country has given us Herr Hitler, Kurt Waldheim and most of the in house staff at the death camps.
On the plus side I know of people that have sat through "The Sound of Music" more than twenty times so that must make up for a lot of transgressions.

I have lost count of the number of times I've sat through the Sound of Music, normally in another room

The more I learn about Hitler the less I find to admire.
Vegetarian, teetotaller, non-smoker and one of the first things his government did on coming to power in 1934 was ban fox hunting.
Obviously mad.
As for the present day rise of the 'right', what the Hell do you expect when mainstream political parties have shown less concern for traditional class and economic interests and greater concern for issues such as feminism, environmentalism, liberal internationalist values, live animal sodding exports and LGBT rights?
Do you honestly think that any of the fast developing countries of the world have the lead in their national newspapers today that vegans are objecting to tallow in their currency or that anyone in China actually gives a toss about what is happening in Syria, never mind about calling on their government to invite the poor photogenic little kiddies who have been bombed into their own country?
Perhaps if the left actually had some concern for the 'poor', who they actually despise and love keeping in a supplicant state so they can show how much they 'care', and Governments started acting in the best interests of their citizens there would be no rise in the so-called 'right'?

Maybe everyone should check out the Bildeberg group. That'll provide plenty of evidence of hegemonic control irrespective of party colours.
Shame on me for making an entry on the sabbath. I'm off for a lie down and some muttered orisons.

Not really clear if this just applies to children born outside France or those of foreign born parents.

Polygamy? FGM? Burkas/niqabs in public places? for starters one would think.

Knowing the history of the party in charge of this they will go a lot further than that.

The coalition plans to make asylum seekers hand over any cash they have when they submit an asylum claim, so that it funds their welfare.
They will also have to hand over their mobile phones so that the authorities can see from their data how they reached Austria and whom they contacted. Phones will not be confiscated but there will be systematic checks.
According to the new Austrian government's plans:
Basic care will be provided for migrants in kind - no longer in cash benefits
Doctors providing basic medical care for migrants may have to provide more information than in the past, as "their duty of confidentiality will be limited", the coalition programme says (in German)
Spouses will be barred from Austria in cases of polygamy, forced marriage or child marriage
Asylum seekers' children will have to attend special "bridging" classes in migrant hostels, separate from mainstream education. The coalition does not explain how that system will work. Many hostels are in small towns and lack resources for such classes, Austria's Der Standard newspaper reports.
In a Facebook post, FPÖ leader Heinz-Christian Strache said (in German): "No longer will it possible for migrants who haven't worked here a single day and have paid nothing into the system to get thousands of euros in social security!" He added: "On this point we in the Freedom Party have stuck to a central electoral promise!"
The Danish government was widely criticised in Europe when it introduced similar measures.
