14:2937050Just a little taste of the MRL take on politics. I rather like it.........
These are just a few of their policies:
Cool on the outside:
To combat global warming and climate change all buildings should be fitted with air conditioning units on the outside.
Wheelie Bins:
The idea of weight monitoring chips in wheelie bins should be scrapped, instead the wheels should be removed, this would mean that if people generated too much waist they could not put their non-wheelie bin out for collection. It would also help prevent them being chucked into canals.
Needles
Due to the increasing number of children afraid of needles, I propose the destruction of the tedious, scary and often painful process of school vaccinations.
Instead, I propose that highly trained nurses should be given free reign on the playground with specially modified tranquillizer rifles which apply vaccinations as well as a tranquillizer. This would have two main benefits: It would be less scary for the children as they will not know what hit them, also it will be more fun for the nurses
Hypocrites
It is proposed that all politicians be made to swear a "hippocratic oath", preventing them by law from being Hypocrites. All politicians should be made to stand by their policies, or or at least admit that they were wrong.
GCSE Lottery
It is proposed that, before the beginning of exams, the exam board will select a certain obscure phrase which will be kept secret. If any pupil inadvertently writes this phrase in any exam,he/she will automaticaly receive straight A* grades, and a free teddy.
One Sided Policy
It is proposed that The European Union end its discrimination by creating a "Court of Human Lefts" because their present policy is one_sided.
Prison Food
The problems of prison overcrowding and increased crime will be solved easily by issuing a compulsory contract on McDonalds to do all prison catering. Convervative estimates suggest a 50% reduction in crime rates within 2 years with 0% re-offender figures.
Political Colours
All politicians should paint them self's permantly head to toe in the colour of the party they represent - e.g. all Labour candidates in Red , all Conservatives in Blue ,etc, etc
One hours silence.
At 12 0' clock pm every day we will have a one hour silence dedicated to our time that has been lost due to work, home and labour
Good Heroes
Make it illegal for super heroes to use their powers for evil.
Safe Tractors
Ban tractors from driving on roads, they can drive across their fields.
Scary Terrorists
Ban all terrorists from having beards as they look scary.
There is more, but I suggest you visit the website.

14:4537056Asbo's seem to be a badge they carry around with pride, from what I hear Community Service works on certain projects.
I remember the way that 'Deathwish' audiences reacted, maybe this is tied in with the same sort of baying mob mentality who attended 'Madame Guillotine' in Paris and public executions in London etc in the not to distant past.

14:5937061Perhaps all films could be classified the same then. John Wayne shoots the baddie, William tell kills the Austrians, Michael Caine shoots the Zulu`s, have we all been baying in the past for our heroe`s to kill the bad guys everytime?

15:1437064There is a sense in which we have been told it is "bad" to want punishment for people who do bad stuff, and that has led directly to the abuse of the term "pc gone mad"!! I hate that phrase, because the implication is that it is wrong to seek to be ok, or "good" , that "pc" is somehow to blame or wrong. Being pc is ok, it is when we start to use it as an excuse to behave badly that is becomes clogged up and open to beating us up with.
Obviously it is a bad thing to "bay for blood" - that is why the judicial system is sepeareted from the victims of crime, and quite right too. But it is ok to want justice to be served, and for the "bad guys" to be caught. BUT what we do with the bad guys will be indicative of how our society operates: if we continue to bay for blood we characterise ourselves as savages; if we seek a deeper and more humane solution we become human, grown up, and able to move forwards.

15:2837071The main thought that always comes back to me Bern, are those millions who died in the nazi death camps in the last war, not only Jews but many other races. I wonder what would have happened at Nuremburg, if the judges there sent all those nazi war criminals to prison to show how compassionate they were, instead of hanging them. All that loss of life they caused, and they`d have been out after 10 years like the rest of them.

15:4237073A good point well made, Colin - it underlines the need for proper sentencing and not the arbitrary stuff we get now, where a paedophile can be given what amounts to community service and a guy protecting his own home and life from scummy burglars is imprisoned for fighting back. Anyone with any sense can see how stupid that is. It is a question of scale and scope.

21:0737129Not at all Colin, the way in which the audiences aka 'Deathwish' acted is totally different to Rooster Cogburn taking down the baddies whilst gritting the reins in his nicotine stained teeth or Michael Caine as Lt Bromhead shouting out the orders 'Front Rank, Present, Fire, 2nd Rank, Present, Fire, Rear Rank, Present, Fire'. Cinemagraphical Magic
Michael Caine - ' John Wayne once advised me, to talk low, talk slow and don't talk too much, And then I went on and made Sleuth'

21:2437132Yes Barry, Zulu was cinemagraphical magic, but like Deathwish, the audience at the time would have got excited at seeing the British shoot the Zulu`s. Whether they cheered or not, I can`t remember. But you`d still have that kill them urge, whatever the film. Rooster Cockburn was a comedy I think, from what I remember, so it wouldn`t have been taken seriously anyway. Regarding the front rank fire, second rank fire, which was good, would anybody watch it if they were shooting in the air to frighten them off?

21:4437138Used to know a Lady in Hull, that is rare. You are right though it would need a rethink, and obviously that would only be after warning, social workers, perhaps even Commuinty Payback for Asbo holders,We know that 95-99% of most kids are brilliant to ok,but those who are left are failing and they need something to keep thier mind active and teach them discipline and that life doesn't revole around them but to teach them they can be a part of a team if they work at it.
Did military service teach you that Ian,I think it did and it will help them back into the Community.

21:5637139You have a long way to go yet before you can convince me John.
I never was wayward but still joined up at 15. My mates thought I was crazy, I had the last laugh though.
When I saw them 2 yrs on and saw what they where up to I thought oh my god I have been so lucky to choose the way I took.
If the youth of today cannot plan their future way ahead, and be a constant burden on society the way they are, then their future should be made for them.
Give them back the discipline that WE deserve and at the same time make THEM appreciate it.
Over to you.

00:1137167Trouble is that it is not all the Youth of today Ian, the vast majority are decent youngsters growing up, yes they make mistakes but in general they are no different to the youth of yesterday.
It is the minorities that have not been raised with respect for others and sadly that minority is making it look as though it is all youngsters. There needs to be an All Party solution on what needs to be done for that is also the problem all the political parties want to do is score points on how each can do better than the other and in the end they all do sod all about those youngsters out of control.
You watch the election issues come up now, if the these young trouble makers get a mention at all it will be a surprise, then whoever gets in will put it on the back burner. All we will get is more youngsters die, more people in their own homes being threatened by mindless gangs.
Politicians Moto "Vote for us, we will sort it out" but they forget to tell you that when they get in fiddling the tax payer becomes more important.

09:0737172A good reminder of the anger and resentment we all felt about the expenses fiddles. Don't forget that our MPs across the country diddled us out of millions. Now try and vote.........
