23:3136884Have any of you been watching the reports on the news about this subject?
I find it realy unbelievable that so many people have to go through this sort of thing.
One victim wrote LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR on a boarded up house opposit her home and guess what, the coppers fined her for it.
Britain stinks regarding this subject and no one seems to care about it, our youth are definitely out of control.
I would hate to be in that position and I will admit it wouldn't be long before I was in prison myself for trying to stop it.

23:4236888As stated Howard I have never been in that sort of situation.
IF I was and no one in authority took action then I would be forced to take it myself, I could not live a life like that.
People are being paid to look after the public, why is it not happening?

09:4936909I have seen the programmes Ian and have been disgusted at the behaviour and that they get away with it for so long.
There is a will Howard, a strong will, but the (District) Council's Community Safety Unit HAVE to act within the law - and that is where the problem is - the law.
It's all well and good the Government saying they feel very strongly about this Anti-Social Behaviour, but the Council's hands are tied; sadly the reality is that the hard-cases can and do get away with their truly disgusting behaviour.
It takes so long to get anywhere, people give up and continue to suffer, many of them in extreme anguish and frustration, driving some of them, as we have seen, to suicide.
On this ASB, I could see fed-up groups of people sorting them (the perpetrators) out; as far as I am aware, it hasn't started yet. I'm not talking about the usual vigilante groups, but good neighbours rallying around to protect their attacked neighbours and stopping these kids from their activities.

18:3336963Only caught the tail end on the news tonight, but some chap has been stabbed to death for trying to help a woman being mugged. Thats what happens they go from Asbo's to murder as an Asbo is a total waste of time.
I joined the forces after National Service finsihed and have always been against bringing National Service back in, but I am starting to think that it could be part of the answer Ian. Stop giving out ASBO's give them the option Prison/Youth Custody or the Armed Forces and have special military units for them.

18:4236965Asbos do nothing. I can't understand why it isn't as clear as day to the people making therules that young people need a purpose and boundaries: community service (not national service) is a fantastic way to harness the energy and goodwill that I am sure is at the heart of most of our young people. Don't give choices - people will always refuse!! Make it attractive an mandatory. And display the outcomes and the visible rewards.

19:2636973Can not disagree with Community Service Bern as I have see it first hand at the Mill and it works well and you are right when they have a purpose and boundaries it gives them an aim. However we do also see a few come back a second and third time.
Most that are on Community service at the Mill are for petty crime rather than that of having a go at their neighbors and disrupting normal life within the community. It appears ASBO's are for disrupting the community and Community service for crime, not sure where the difference is. .
I mention National Service only for those who are so far gone down the disruption road that Community Service will be of no service to them and we have had the odd one of those on C.S at the Mill as well.

20:1336978Never a copper about when you need one. Even if you dial 999 you almost need to make an appointment a week in advance.
I sort of agree with Harry that a spell in the armed forces might do some of them some good, but that spell must be of sufficient length that they actually get some benefit out of it - not just boot camp.

22:4037001I think we all know full well that what we feel and what we know should happen, never will.
Our leaders are all spineless wonders and would never dream of upsetting the balance.
The problem goes on and on and the innocent will pay, ten fold.
Here endeth the lesson.

00:0437004Here here Ian, I totally agree.
I woiuld defend my home and my children from such abuse, and so have others before me and it has lead to a terrible end, in their own death or to have to take their own life, or prison themselvs, because some people don't have the respect of others anymore, it worries me, to think how it will be in a further 5 years time if we can not get a grip on this.
For me it is parenting, discipline and good old fashioned virtues of patience and good-manners. Bring back national service (though I am too young to know about itbut I do know of the resutls) and capital punishments (stocks in the market square would be welcomed)

11:1237019As I said a few month`s ago on here, when that Charles Bronson film came out in the 70s, `DEATHWISH`, I remember Michael Parkinson reviewing it, and referring to the audience cheering everytime a mugger was shot dead. As I also said before, is that telling you something? I`m sure all those cinemagoers across the states weren`t all bloodthirsty lunatics, and here we are, near 40 years later with the same problems. It will be very interesting to read what historians will say about all this in the future. Mind you, we`ve always been like it, and politician`s have done nothing!! You won`t see me at the polls, EVER!!!

12:1737022I so wish for a Monster Raving Loony candidate to stand here, and to win significant votes. That would send such a powerful message - I would vote for them!! People struggled to obtain votes for people like me, and I would never not use it, out of respect for their memory - but I will use it creatvely where I can.

12:3537029I agree with you on our past struggle`s to get a vote for the working class Bern, and I see what you`re getting at, but I certainly wouldn`t vote out of respect. It was a different world then.
