Why should the bus staff have to work? I think it is wrong that now so many expect everywhere to open on Boxing Day, it should be NHS and other vital staff only.

I have posted many times on here that it seems unfair on shop staff to work on Boxing day but we are where we are. Only one bus driver would be needed to tour the densely populated parts of town and take people to the centre and back and there would be no shortage of volunteers.

Maybe stagecoach are backing the majority view that the shops should stay closed.

Then there would be scores of complaints about the poor service from those in town and those who would not even get a service. If people are that desperate to shop let them go by car or get a friend to give up their well deserved Boxing Day away from work to drive them. I am sure the driver would be delighted to stay sober just so a friend or relative can do that vital bit of shopping.

Practically all of them and the footfall is probably the biggest of the year due to people wanting a bit of fresh air and exercise after the previous day.

M & S have never opened on Boxing day or New Years day, not even their flagship Marble Arch outlet. Our Supermarkets will be open mostly from 8 am for some obscure reason and the likes of W. H. Smith and Argos from 10 am.

Latest from Charlie on the subject.
Reinstating bus services in villages was top of the agenda during my talks with Stagecoach bosses.
I led a campaign by Kent MPs against KCC plans to cut subsidies. I can confirm Dover and Deal has now been selected as one of five areas for their new public transport pilot scheme – re-establishing regular services into Northbourne, Great Mongeham, Sholden, Ash and Staple from summer 2019. Yet I know there is more to do, with River, Eythorne and others affected by recent changes.
People in rural areas rely on buses to go to school and work and access vital services. We must find a way to ensure they aren't cut off.
