I think the only way to get services running smoothly and for the benefit of the users would be the local authority taking over the running of buses in Bristol which cannot happen under the bus services act of 2017.

We and the country needs to decide what kind of service we want and how to pay for it

R;' post 581 here is the reply from KCC, no wonder operators fight to get the contract.
Dear Mr Mcsweeney
Freedom of Information Act 2000
Thank you for your request for information made under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000, relating to stagecoach. Please see the response below: Please advise how much is paid to Stagecoach buses each year for the 68 bus Maxton/Temple Ewell
Service 68 Maxton to Temple Ewell receives £36 702 per annum of subsidy from Kent County Council.
In addition, Stagecoach also receive £5 542 of Bus Service Operator Grant (BSOG). BSOG was previously paid by the Department for Transport to local bus operators but was devolved to Local Authorities to administer for subsidised services from January 2014

Well that is guaranteed when KCC pay out that sort of money Keith. Six round trips a day plus three town centre to Maxton and back 300 days a year. The early journeys are busy but mostly pass holders then fairly quiet until the last three get busy mostly with fare paying passengers. Every time it comes up for tender there is no shortage of applicants.

Then we are on the right road although it's also fair to say car owners can often put obstacles in the way by bad parking

Now the turn of Thanet to face services being cut, I'm told that KCC give subsidies in West Kent to the tune of £.800,000 more than East Kent so I will make enquiries to ascertain the facts.

It was ever thus. When I served on a committee at KCC I used to say it was like the war of the roses. Our East Kent members must speak up for us .

But do they Sue or are they there just to top up their pensions? As far as I can ascertain Karen Constantine from Thanet is the only one in our neck of the woods that is active in fighting our corner.

Gordon's achievements when his party is a tiny minority are a lesson to others. I'm not just talking about his skilful manipulation of KCC and Stagecoach in keeping the 68 bus route going but also getting the lights turned back on in Whitfield Hill and also getting a KCC cabinet member down to Dover to meet families affected by cuts to children's services and getting a result.

Yes Sue/Howard Gordon has and still is active
And fought for and kept the bus
Now buses are a mess
Poor timetables
Routes altered not to benefit any passenger
What's important though we haven't seen that same passion from our present county cllrs

Yes Gordon good chap. Some people don’t like his style but I consider him a good Councillor who always works hard,.Trouble with some Councillors they don’t have the passion.
When you have that kind of passion it does become stressful.Im still fighting for a better bus service very stressful when you don’t get the support. If Gordon was still on KCC he would be fighting.Perhapd he can help on DDC

He will do what he can I'm sure
But it shows our present ones not worth voting for

Yet again no buses on Boxing day or New Years day in the district other than the 15 route from Pencester Road to Canterbury 6 times on Boxing day. All shops will be open both days which means a lack of staff and customers.

Sorry Howard, I thought you were saying the shops will have a lack of staff and customers because of the lack of buses.
