Bern you are so right in your comments .We used to have free buses one a day on a Tuesday and Friday Free to Tesco .I complained when this was stoped not that im a Tesco supporter but many River reidents are .I was told more Stasgecoach buses would be runnning direct to Tesco ,consquently River people now have to change at Buckland Bridge for a bus .Coming back is not good as you have to wait for a River bus on the opposite side of the road a long wait if the service is missed out . When Sainsburys moved out (lovely shop).a bus used to run from the town through the Alkham Valley we all paid £1.After a short time the bus was withdrawn .Then came along Tesco. The trouble with those Councillors who hold the power they dont use public bus services .
Roger is right we must use the local shops .I have tried to get a well known shoe shop back to no avail .We need a wet fish shop and a decent clothes shop.

in posts 41 and 42 you said that you were told that there would be more buses running to tesco by stagecoach.
there are a lot more buses running to tesco from the town centre, every 10 minutes, i believe.

Howard
Rather getting off the point, but yep lots of local buses to tesco's
which as bern said, they were free to get people to go but also to get council on board, they thewn withdrew the free bus service.
Im looking forward if the day comes for tesco's to have that monopoly taken from them.
one of the few times I support open market and compitition

Howard yes there are more buses running from the town direct to Tesco every ten minutes and they never cancel those? The free bus which was the carrot, used to run through St Radigunds on to River via Kearsney .I think it also went via Tower Hamlets and Folkestone road .Those people who had a direct service FREE now have to change buses .I pointed out it means crossing roads and waiting for bus connections .They gave the bait and people were dragged in.The cafe as Bern states is a disaster .Old people used to sit when it was on the Ground floor time their shopping so it fitted in with the buses .
Im not at Whitfield so frequently now but i never use Tesco.I prefer to shop in Dover
Keith and myself use the buses all the time so I think we have a fair bit of knowledge on these matters .
By the way Howard Im asking a question at Full Council next week regarding progress or lack of on the Clarendon Play area ..

stagecoach are a private business that can only respond to demand.
if their customers want to go to tesco more than other destinations, it is their duty to respond.
keith
a monopoly applies where there is no other option.
i stated previously that i have not entered their portals for some years, i have not starved to death yet.

Funny you should say that, Howard. It is a little known fact that the reason that the dinosaurs became extinct was that they got too big to get through the doors at Tesco's.
I heard that in the White Horse many years ago so it must be true.
