As I walked down the town today I saw a cyclist cycling down the pavement from the Eagle towards Iceland on that side,I was on the otherside and I could see an old Chinese man coming down the steps from the houses above the Chinese take away, then I saw the Cyclist and as the man got to the bottom of the step I could see what was going to happen. It didn't because although the Chinese man couldn't see the bike he paused on the step for a brief second,he was still shocked as the Cyclist passed him and missed him by perhaps 2 feet.
As I walked down by the Town Council office,I bumped into an old mate who said when is someone going to re-enforce these Cycling notices, just then a young lad shot by on his bike.
On the way back up through the Town I saw Ashley our 1 Town Bobby, and I waited until he was free and as I went to speak to him about the Cyclist problem he croosed the road to tell this 70 year old to get off his bike.He came back and I said that is funny that is just what I was going to talk to you about. He was a bit busy but basically said he was on his own and couldn't do much about it.
On I press and spotted our very Town Clerk Mike Webb sitting having a break outside a cafe,so like my old mate Keef, went across and spoke to him and while we were there the same old man cycled passed again in the non cycling zone.
Moral of the Story it is not always young kids who do wrong it is old people as well, and when told old people are as stubborn or as forgetful as Young people
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

that issue drives(or cycles) me to distraction, plenty of publicity and warning signs but no action.
clearly our town centre copper can only be in one place at one time, just annoys me that his superiors make grand gestures that they have no intention of bringing to fruition.

Lets face it Howard, you can do what the hell you like in Dover and get away with it.
Unless your parked on double yellows of course.

As a cyclist and pedestrian I get right royally peed off by the behaviour of so many of the cyclists in the town. I get particularly annoyed at people cycling up London Road towards Buckland on the pavement, including far too many of the Army Cadets and far too many people over the age of 18 that ought to know better. Frankly if you are not confident of riding it on the road where you are meant to be, then leave it at home and walk. Also don't get me started on idiots without lights.

Go on, Ross - tell us what you think about idiots without lights.........!

Do not talk to me about cyclists on the pavement in London Road. Most of the ones I have seen whizzing past the shop are going against the flow of the traffic because it is quicker than using the one way system.
What about a stinger, that would mean new tyres and could put them out of action for a while.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

What gets me Jan is when they pull wheelies down the road against the flow of traffic

Sadly there is no money for the police or DDC in dealing with this menace and so, they will remain, above the law, and a menace to us all.

A short, sharp purge would do the trick - confiscate and destroy the cycles and fine the offenders on the spot. Let them learn the hard way. It works in other places.

I should make it clear I am a cyclist, another real annoying thing that really gets me is people riding through the waiting room at the train station,it is not a road it is a waiting room!If the cyclist knocked a child or an old person over the railway is liable for their stupidity.

A certain councillor who I know used to ride through the precinct regularly although I haven't seen him lately. Maybe the notices have scared him off.
