13:1010480Marek, a friend of mine is a bin man, when we were recycled 2 weeks ago I noticed that they were using the bin lorry. So I asked him whether they sort it.he said that they put the different items in different compartments.I then said what happens he said it is all taken to Richborough and dumped.Makes you wonder!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Thanks for that. I'm not muck stirring but I really feel that we the public need to know where and what happens to our recycled gear.

10:3310527John, if you are correct , I would appreciate you getting in touch with Roger Walton with the info. Sita would appear not to be fulfilling their contract.

21:1910540IF this is the case Paul, how many people that have read this have now lost confidence and are not recycling at all?
I think I may get rid of all my recycling stuff in a bin bag this week.

08:5410549Can't understand why there are difficulties in Dover. Obviously the first few weeks need bedding in time but they should have sorted it by now. Deal, Sandwich etc. appear to going OK. I'll ask the questions & John needs to give his details.
The recycling tonnage is up in big numbers. Someone is being recycled

15:0211320I have just read the following
Household rubbish put out for recycling is dumped in landfill sites or sent to incinerators by three out of four councils, it has been reported.
Councils admitted destroying more than 100,000 tons of recyclable waste, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Medway, Peterborough and Reading councils had the worst figures, with each failing to recycle more than 10% of what was collected.
Pembrokeshire Council revealed that 19% of kerbside recycling ends up in landfill, while Derbyshire County Council said 30% of recyclable cans would not be reprocessed.
I wonder whether Dover responded to the enquiry and what % of our recyclable rubbish is going into landfills.

08:4311368Howard I reckon we are 40%-50% at present with the new contract. This will be genuine figures because of the kerbside sort.
Other systems used by our neighbouring authorities [Shepway apart] don't collect glass , put all recyclates in a clear pastic bag which is then weighed & sorted later. This where the fiddle goes on . After sorting a lot of the recyclates are then downgraded [but not the original %] & sent to landfill.
Our residual waste i.e. black sacks is either sent to landfill at Richborough or Allington for incineration.
That's the contract requirement.
