Using the word "invasion" is not accurate - if we invaded we would want to conquer and that isn't the point here.

if a foreign power sent troops onto our shores and tried to inflict their political system on us, most of us would call it an invasion and take considerable umbrage over it.
Sorry - I thought that's what happened when the allies defended Europe during WWII.........it was a defence, not an invasion.

our german friends were trying to invade us, i hardly think that afghanistan has quite the war machine of the third reich.

Howard, I think PE means remote controled explosive devices, which is one of the main types of warfare waged by the Taliban. It's what causes the by far largest number of deaths and injuries among British and otehr coalition forces in Afghanistan
