...this coming weekend?
Then don't bother with the Dover Express because they are not bothered themselves.
This so called 'local' newspaper has not printed a single word about the Hellfire Corner weekend coming up. Their rivals, the Dover Mercury, have had exactly the same information and press releases as the Express and have so far printed two very good and prominent reports in recent weeks of what will be happening (and thats without my seeing today's Mercury and finding out what may be in there).
The Express can always find plenty of room for Folkestone (including its 'foreign' Chamber of Commerce) but it can't help local groups wioh advance publicity.
We were more dependant on the local papers providing advance publicity than ever this year due to being more 'cash strapped' than normal and deciding to spend what money we had in maintaining the quality of the show. Additionally we find we are competing against an England World Cup match with the Saturday evening dance as well......
So thank you for nothing Dover Express - you are living true to your poor reputation.
Well done and thank you Dover Mercury.

Won't comment on the general paper mentioned as I have a biased view,
that said it is sometimes strange the differing story lines or weeks takenn to get stories out.
Of course the forum to me is informative, and quick to get info out.
thats where I look

Think it is swings and roundabouts with both papers unfortunately, I try to bombard all the e-mail addresses that I have.....
I am pondering next year over paying for an advertisements to ensure there is some decent coverage.
Been nice knowing you :)

We didn't have the cash for advertising this year. We did manage to get a few thousand leaflets out, mostly at various 40's and other events around the county plus in some Dover shops, but were relying to a large extent of newspaper support. Just did not have the cash we had last year to get posters up and paid for advertising.
I am spending today printing piles of leaflets on my office printer for cadets to hand out around the town during the event to draw people into Pencester.
We desperately need a big name commercial sponsor on top of the various grant aiding bodies - to whom we are most grateful. Any offers out there?!!!

Are there no "big-business" members of the Chamber of Commerce Barry that would benefit from the publicity ?
Not knowing the amount of sponsorship money you're looking at, I can't make a suggestion.
Good Luck for the week-end though - shame about the dance too.

Yes indeed I have done so....
Thanks Howard - the weather looks promising.
Just had a call, the swingboats for the children will be arriving to set up by 9am tomorrow. I will be in the park from 7am to ensure someone is there, getting set for a long but good weekend.
Just hope we get more military vehicle owners turn up than last year, we have had plenty of promises and if half of them turn up we will have more than ever...
