08:3635670I read in the Online version of Kent on Sunday that a dog-owner was recently fined £500 for allowing his dog to poo in a children's play area and didn't pick it up.
When asked by a PCSO to pick it up, he said "why should I ?"
This is great news and should be broadcast far and wide - that people are being fined serious amounts because they are not acting responsibly when their dog's mess the pavement or play area - why take a dog into a children's play area in the first place ?
I really hope that if this guy appeals, the fine is not reduced - maybe increased; we must not allow the seriousness to be reduced.

09:4935673A small Hurrah for this one! Why have laws and fines if they are not enforced? And as a sometime dog owner I a appalled when others don't clean up. Nice work from the PCSO, too.

10:5835686Roger you may recall I brought this up at Full Council when I was trying to get a dog bin in Astor Avenue, not because the Dog mess is any worse there than elsewhere it is bad everywhere,I was told by a certain Cllr I wouldn't get one.The reason I wanted one in Astor Avenue was the amount of School Children who walk up there daily.
From Vale View,Astor,DBGS,Priory Fields, then children walking the other way to Charlton DGGS and Barton and Shatterlocks to be told by the portfolio holder no chance,So I called an officer up there and he got out of his car and stood in yes you guessed it,so I got a Doggie Bin on the wrong side of the road and in the wrong place but it is there,John Goodwin 1-0Sue Nicholas,Sorry Sue

having got dog poo bins we then need to educate the owners to use them
I support fining everyone found guilty of allowing the dog to foul without cleaning it up

11:1935697They`ll probably have their fine reduced, and get a warning, and they`ll walk away and laugh with their freinds about our soppy law and apathy will return, and back to square one. Lets hope not though, and perhaps this post could be used to keep everyone informed.

16:3135725i see dog owners ignoring the matter of their dog fouling all the time, the law is very rarely applied, much like the mad cyclists in the towncentre doing as they like.
i fully expect that the case that roger mentions is just a one off to appease the public.

19:3235731It may be Howard, but I don't think Magistrates set fines or sentences just to appease the public, in fact I don't think they are concerned about public opinion, judging by some of their decisions. I would like to see many more of these cases reported in the papers.
The PCSOs can't be everywhere and we can't expect to see people with cameras following dog owners to check if they are being responsible, but this does need greater publicity.

pcso's are much more likely to catch dog fouling, littering and the like than a normal police officer.
i believe that they have the powers to issue on the spot fines to transgressors, a lot depends on whether it is a good psco that sees such things, or a not so good one that turns a blind eye.
you mention cameras, but the worst places for dog fouling in town are covered by CCTV.

21:3935742I wondered why the operators of those CCTVs`s complain about all the crap on there.

07:5135754I haven't seen much (or trod in) dog-poo in Town, at least not in the main roads of: Market Square, Cannon Street, Biggin Street and the roads off, including Castle Street, Pencester, Ladywell and others.
I thought dog poo mostly occurs out of Town, not covered by CCTV and fairly early in the morning, but obviously people take their dogs out at various times of the day.

10:0535767Calm down you lot, one person being fined isn't going to change the face of the earth. No mention of where it was either.
There needs to be lots of this going on before anyone takes any notice. a one off is not good enough.
What realy makes me giggle is in some towns you can throw away a ciggy end and get pounced on by a smoking inspector with a large on the spot fine.
Dog poo, fag end. wich would you rather get rid of?
Go for the smokers. easier money.

11:2735774I appreciate that one fine isn't going to make every dog-owner more responsible Ian, but plenty of publicity may make some dog-owners think about pcking up after their dogs.

12:2835778Every little bit helps (publicity that is), as a dog owner I always clear up after our dog, it annoys me when owners do not clear up after their dog
Well Done to the pcso

14:1235786We use those little plastic poo-bags that attach to the dog leads. They're cheap, very easy to use, clean, and simple, so no dog owner has an excuse not to pick up their dog poo. I recently saw a "chav" lad walking his trophy Staff terrier like it was some sort of weapon of mass destruction through town, and when it stopped for a crap he just laughed and carried on. I don't think that dog owners on the whole are the problem, as most seem to be responsible, but it does seem to be a dumb-ass handful of idiots that give all of us a bad name. Like most things.

14:1735787This is not a one off, thre has been many more, but like everything these things are sent to local papers its there paper and sometimes they put it in often they dont.
feel all found guilty should go in name and shame
