I don't see that this is unreasonable in any way, it's great that Pencester has been used.
As for people complaining about the noise, it is just a part of living in a town - a friend of mine lives on the Strand in Walmer and last weekend had to put up with the noise and disruption from the Marines' concert. You just deal with it.

I also agree that its good that theres more going on in Pencester but with the amount of equipment and people there was no need to shut the walkway and play parks off from public use. This was a big big mistake in my opinion.

Hearing murmurs that the legal niceties regarding closing the rights-of-way have not been performed, making the closures illegal.

The park is owned by DDC, the bandstand by DTC, and the Greenway along the river by KCC - complicated arrangement!

I didn't know that KCC owned the greenway I thought they simply operated the Cyclists/pedestrian bit, nevertheless surely DDC events team had the knowledge and experience to have co-ordinated the festival?

All I want to know is was the event a resounding success? I certainly hope so and there is another next year but not in Pencester.
Was it packed with people and all costs covered?
If so the disruption and inconvenience to some was worth it. I must say the the noise I heard when I was in my garden was awful maybe the quieter music was better.

Must have been blow to lose Town council funding even though there were other sponsors including Dover Big Local.

Damned if they had and damned as they didn't.
I would have thought they could have given a grant or help for free in some way or another.
Although the Music Festival has been widely praised by those who went I have not heard whether it was a sell out (or near) on any of the three days.

Have not seen article in Dover Express and could not get above link to work. But Dover Town Council gave a very generous grant to the Festival last year (£12,000) with little recognition and an agreement signed that this was for a three year period. So could not really give further funds, there was a signed agreement.
So as Jan said damned if you do and damned if you don't. But there was use of Pavilion etc. which DTC own.

Good place for the next one if there is one would be Maxton lots of room for parking good rd into the ground and out onto the a20 in both ways. This is where I was going to hold one back in 2003 but we will not go into why that did not happen.

I don't think that Maxton would really be in the spirit of a festival in the town.
Saying that, along with all of the negativty, you may as well say that such events would be best suited somewhere else, anywhere other than Dover.
Use of the Pavillion - wow!

Dover is a great place to hold one and we need more events like it ,and I understand it is very hard to put any event on because of cash in the main.I was trying to get the old hover pad by the clock tower which at that time was not in use. When I was chairman years ago on the D.T.C. events committee we put on some good events and some not so good but even then it was very hard to get off the ground but it was worth it.

It was good that it was in Town as shops and other businesses benefit too. Didn't last year's have "free" music around the Town and this year it was all in Pencester ?

I think the commitee found too unweildy Roger. Concerts at the Town Hall and the Corn Mill and bands strung out around town was bound to be a problem with hindsight of course.
