I've heard ( I've no idea how true it is, I just thought I,d run it past you ) that emails have been sent to people flying Union flags & St George flags telling them to remove them !!! Surely not, can people be made to remove our national flag ?

That scam comes up at regular intervals on the interweb, aimed at the terminally gullible.

It wasn't on the net actually, which is why I asked, me not being one of the terminally gullible.

Is this a guessing game or are we allowed to know where this strange accusation emanated from?

Wouldn't be the Town Clerk Brian, no authority outside the council offices. A year or two back a local newspaper in the midlands ran a story that a housing association had told a tenant to take down a union flag. When delved into it transpired that the flagpole was the problem, not properly anchored and a danger to the public.

Would be interesting to see any evidence you have to back up your statement as I have never sworn at or name called any individual online. Easy to check as I only post under my real name. Incidentally why do you describe a piece of art as "stupid" when none of us know what it will be yet?

Is it still OK, to keep my Union Jack flying, because I do NOT want to offend anyone? I would really like to know as i am contemplating whether to get a quote to remove the pole, as its much too high & heavy to remove on my own!

Go for it. It really doesn't offend anyone except people who like to stir up what is always a non story.

Has anyone got any evidence to back this up with or is it people who like to be outraged? Round my way I see union flags, St Georges ones, Scottish Saltires, one Welsh dragon, Irish Tricolor and the odd regimental flag. The only one missing seems to be the black flag of ISIS.

Who said anything about being outraged ? You're making a mountain out of a molehill Howard Mcsweeney, there is no proof, it was told to me in confidence, I asked the question Vic Matchem replied - end of. You sure do exaggerate.

What's of interest is how, who and what is propagating these rumours, showing concern as to what we should be looking out for /trying to discourage etc, has become an opportunity to throw some personal insults around! Grow up and tell who what or where these rumours are coming from and stop using it to have a go.

Oh really, do not try to bully me, I've insulted no one, as for telling me to grow up - a bit pot & kettle wouldn't you say ? I've no intention of telling you where I heard this, so now go & throw your toys out of your pram. You seem to be very childish, I wont be replying to any more posts so don't bother writing them. I asked a question, I received a civil answer, end of.

Lyn sorry my post suggests you throwing insults, this is not my intent. What I meant was that people are using your post as an opportunity to do this, what would be useful to the greater populace would be when someone else hears the same rumour, they would know to either ignore it or be rightly outraged ie: if a town council where trying to implement such draconian controls. Some liberal councils have in the past tried these sort of things and have been rightly condemned.

No worries Reginald, I accept that your intentions weren't directed at me. I wanted to fly a union flag in my garden & was told by a friend someone would probably object as they had heard others had been told not to. I have not approached the council, I have no idea what their opinions are about flag flying which is why I asked on here. Certain people on here immediately jump on me because I have called the Council to account before - which is my right. This forum seems to be at times used by some very bitter & nasty people, a certain person always questions everything I post.
