Been a HMO for many years going back to the Asylum Seeker days then housing East Europeans after their accession to the EU. About a year or so ago they were all kicked out and the place was advertised as 4 flats at £. 25000 each later reduced to £. 20000.
The boards have been taken down but judging by the cars and overflowing rubbish bins people are living in there.

Poor old Folkestone RD why did the council not take any notice of what we said years ago.The D.D.C of the day must take 100% blame for this.

Big houses like those in the Folkestone Road and all around the country hark back to the days when wealthy families had staff who needed quarters. Conversions were inevitable but in certain areas local authorities were more sensible and only allowed them to be converted into 2/3 bedroomed flats to attract families. From what I have been told there are 2 or 3 families sharing kitchen and bathroom facilities in some of our local hovels with landlords raking it in.

The D.D.C. NEED TO GET UP FOLKESTONE RD and have a good sort out but they will not do that. The only way things might get done is if DOVER Collage have a go at them about it all .But I can not see that happen.

Ironically the the development on the old Webb's site is the most attractive bit between the tram shelter and the station.
Amsterdam house has been a slum for 15 years to my knowledge with families packed in rubbish dumped outside.

It was a lovely road with hotels and B&Bs and nice private housing, it all changed for the worse when the duty free lot stayed there with their fights, followed by all the large houses being changed into HMOs.
Unfortunately I think it will be many years before it even starts to get back to being the nice road it used to be.

I don't envisage any improvement in the foreseeable future as there is not the political will, DDC are not interested in a landlord licencing system.
One B & B does a great job in trying circumstances.

When I was a town cllr for up there ,I said at a public meeting at their own planing commitee at D,D,C, you must not build flats in Folkestone rd they are big homes for our own familys to rent or buy. Not for one or two bed room flats,

Lets put this into some sort of perspective; it is a small part of Folkestone Road that is a problem, namely from the railway bridge up to Winchelsea Road on the North side & from Clarendon to the new Doctors Surgery on the South Side.
From Clare House/Winchelsea onwards it is a pleasant street with mostly well kept houses and gardens

A few years back Kent politicians sorry I meant police came up with the idea of exclusion zones or something similar whereby young people thought to be causing a nuisance were taken home or in more serious cases arrested. Folkestone Road was included in the initiative and I can only guess why.
A mate of mine finishes his shift in the early hours and comes home on his motor cycle and to quote him "never see them during the day but after dark they come out like vampires".

I travel Folkestone Road 5 days a week twice a day, when were you last there Vic?
Also I have a number of friends who live on the stretch past Winchelsea Road and they along with their neighbours take great care of their properties and gardens...

In fairness to the good burghers of Winchelsea Street there are are not many turnings in town where an armchair is provided for us decrepit ones to rest halfway up the slope.

Folkestone Rd in part is pretty grim, but generally it is looking better than it did a few years ago. If they developed the Westmount site with quality 3 and 4 bed family homes that might help the area improve. There are far too many flats in Dover. Families more or less have to move out to Whitfield to get a good size modern home. I love period properties, but a lot of people want modern homes built to modern building regs, garages and plenty of parking.
