Roger Frayne is the only Conservative Town Councillor; Jennie Morgan is an "independant" Town Councillor.
She did stand in the District elections as a Conservative, but lost.
I believe that if there is a Conservative and a Dover Alliance candidate at St. Rad's, it will split the opposition and Labour will have another Town Councillor

so it would seem that at town council level, there is a two party system, the town itself is the loser.
judging by roger's post, the blue vote is split between the the alliance and the conservatives.
at least we know where we stand now.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone voted for the people that will do their best for the town rather than for a particular party because that's who they've always voted for and then the councillers could work towards what's best for the town rather than doing what their party has told them to do. Then maybe our town could fulfil it's potential in the way we all know it can.
While I'm wishing I'd like a big house with a white picket fence and a pony.

Steph I thought you had a big house,I saw Chris buying some White Paint last week, and why do you want a pony when Chris has that long mane i don't know.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

As every parent should know, no house with four young children in it can ever be big enough. Anyway, if DDC have any big houses they are certainly not offering them to us. I am not allowed to comment on the need for a mane.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

Chris - brace yourself - a house with four teenagers cannot be big enough either..... or soundproofed enough.... or waterproof enough....or ever ever clean........

So what you're saying Bern is that if we think we're going crazy now just wait 4 more years (this is when Honor turns 13)... Arghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
Could we in the mean time please elect a government that thinks social housing is a good idea so that this council can buy/build/renovate a 4 bedroom house so that I don't have all three of my girls in the one bedroom. (Poor Robin is my only boy)I'm sure someone will be able to enlighten me as to what that will be like in the future.

Sue, I'm sure you meant no offence but please give me credit for some intelligence. We first went on the transfer list nearly 6 years ago when my middle daughter was born, this was because as Honor has Down Syndrome she should be in a seperate room. We then renewed the application in August last year when Honor was diagnosed with Perthe's disease and confined to a wheelchair for the majority of the day. Finally we renewed again in September 2007 when I was safely delivered of my third daughter Thalia. This then meant that I have three girls in one room (against council policy, according to their website), the age difference between the oldest and the youngest is eight years (see previous perenthesis) and my oldest cannot walk up the dozen steps leading to our front door without considerable pain (also see previous perenthesis). I have sent my husband the councillor (town not district) to plead our case to the housing officer and the only answer I receive is that we are on the list, the good news is we are entitled to a four bedroom house (finally) but there aren't any available and considering how few there are I can't see one becoming available before my children leave home (with the possible exception of Honor) and I no longer need one.
Howard, Bern I hope they do get me hopefully they'll be more room on the space ship. And Bern I will be at the party with bells on and bring the most expensive bottle of champagne I can afford.

Hi Steph, I personally think it disgusting that you are having to wait so long.
You would have thought by now that something could and SHOULD have been done.
For 6 years the council have sat on this application. Surely to goodness they could have found you a 4 bed house even if it were in the private sector, and allowed you to keep what I call your housing credits.
Not wanting to sound patronising Steph, but surely to god they have seen the file,
They MUST know that they need to help, so I cannot for the life of me understand why you are not getting the help you need.
It is awful.
Sue!!!! Can you not throw a little bit of hope their way?
Support for The People is a low priority for all governments, local or otherwise. Government has become so complex, unwieldy and target driven that its focus has narrowed from the original concept of serving the community to simply fulfilling economic drives. The result is situations like this, which is outrageous, in which people suffer and endure. We should remember the reasons for and purpose behind local and other governments. They have to be economics-aware, but only because they can better serve The People that way.
Steph - save the champagne for when you are re-housed!! We'll have a proper party then!!!!

xfer means Transfer List which Stephanie did know.Stephanie you would be surprised how many people donot understand the workings of the Housing department Sadly we donot have many four bedroom houses that become available. The other point to consider do people wish to move from one area to another.Would someone in Dover wish to move to Elvington or Aylesham??
I have noted Stephanies concerns and will raise it with Housing in Tuesday.

There is a real danger of getting into personal claims on this forum(chris etc)
but just on the general Issue of larger houses, be clear this conservative council has always wanted to be rid of ALL its council stock it couldn't achieve so it did it another way, it took up MAGGIES Idea to sell off the best council houses and now we are down to those needing alot of dosh on them.
All bigger houses gone, once sold NEVER replaced, its a trend that we have got into, you can't blame people for buying houses at such low price(way below cost of houses outside) but the council never replaced these houses therefore the only thing that could happen is the housing waiting list gets bigger and bigger.
So people looking for these houses would have to wait even longer, or not ever achieve at all.
Sad fact of life, another one of those things that aint going to change. so those wanting council houses watch out, its going to get worse
