i have taken the liberty of lifting this from roger's newsletter as the project deserves special attention.
it would be a great coup for the area to have this memorial come to fruition and there is a lot of work going on in the background to see this come to fruition including a planned dvd.
Harriet Quimby Quiz Night: Hopefully you will have heard of Harriet Quimby ? The first woman to fly across the Channel - in 1912, in one of Louis Bleriot's planes. A replica of the plane was at the Dover Transport Museum last week, I went up to see it and it really was amazing to think that people could fly across the Channel in it. Sadly, Harriet Quimby died just a few months after her historic flight.
There is an attached a flyer and poster for a fundraising quiz on Saturday 5th May. If you could put the poster up at work or on any other noticeboards you can think of to promote the quiz - it is (almost) essential that the place is filled to the rafters of people taking part in the quiz-night.
If you can raise as many teams as possible from friends, colleagues, lovers, fellow down-and-outs and so on, I should be very grateful. In an ideal world, we'd like to raise £500 from this night - with your help that is a real possibility!
Kindest regards

Thanks Howard. I'll put it on my Facebook page and see if I can drum up any support. Is anyone from here going?

We couldn't go in the end, so I sent a donation to help the cause.

I saw that biography on BookFace. Pity the narrator was such a wimp though!

thought it was dead in the water then half watching local news earlier andy cooper appeared extolling the virtues of ms quimby.
missed the start but understand that the issue is over a memorial/statue for a female person and viewers were asked to nominate their favourite.

Yeah, sorry Howard, I should have kept folks updated on this. We had our Heritage Lottery funding bid rejected in May with advice on how to reapply, and this caused the project to stall. Without funding, we couldn't carry on as we were and the resulting loss of impetus, added to the dreadful weather in the early part of the summer, meant that the Project effectively went to sleep for a while.
Our reapplication was submitted a couple of weeks ago and we should hear if we've been successful on this occasion in mid-November time. Fingers crossed. There is a better update on Page 27 of today's Dover Express, together with the dreadful picture of me they always shove in when the Harriet Quimby Centenary Project gets a mention.
True friends stab you in the front.
