Yesterday afternoon my wife's car was hit from behind at the junction of Townwall Street & Wellesley Road. It was hit with such impact that the car was shunted out into Townwall Street and the path of oncoming HGVs from the port; although shaken and quite upset, there was no injury to either my wife or mother-in-law, but the car is in a bit of a mess, yet still driveable. In order to get the car out of the way of the busy Townwall Street traffic my mother-in-law drove around the block to get back onto Wellesley Road, but by the time she got back the car that hit her had driven off; my wife went to Ladywell Police Station and reported what had happened, but as yet the driver of the other car has not come forward.
So, if anyone knows of a black car with shocking pink hub caps and front end damage, or if anyone spots such a car in town, I would very much appreciate it if you could note the registration plate and send it to me in confidence to
fabric@thefabricfairy.co.uk so that I can forward the details to the Police. Not the least of my concerns was that the offender left two distressed ladies in situ without checking to see if either had been hurt.
Thanks.

Andy
So sorry to hear of the above accident but pleased to learn your wife and mother in law are both safe and OK.
Hope you have some sort of result in finding the culprits.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)
Glad to hear the girls are okay, but they really shouldn't have driven away from the scne of the accident. No ezxcuse for the pink hubcap man, but maybe he thought it was his lucky day when they drove off.

Pleased to hear there was no injuries Andy.
Two things spring to mind. Not local, No insurance.
I can't recall seeing a vehicle like that around here.

Sorry to hear all the above Andy, and glad no serious injuries. Never a nice thing any road accident. I`m usually around town, but I can`t say that I`ve seen any black cars, let alone pink hubcaps, (though I suspect, unless they`re stupid, they`ll have been removed). The Ford Ka is the usual black car I see most of.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

i think that ian has hit the nail on the head, i would just add no MOT judging by the style of the accident.

Thanks for your kind words, everyone. I have to say that Ian and Howard are probably right, but it's worth a try. The garage doing the repairs for the insurers reckon it's a write off. I wouldn't mind, it was only a month we spent £800 on it when the clutch went.........

Andy, you can still get if fixed at your own cost, and take the insurance company write-off cheque. My daughter did this for her ccar a few months back. She got it fixed properly for much less than the write off value, so actually made a few quid on the accident. There was some fiddling around with documents for the DVLA, but nothing traumatic.
Her insurers knew what she was doing and even though they wrote off her car, they actually insure it still.

i am assuming your mother in law must be getting on years.
the shock must have been worse to her than to younger people, note that she drove to the police station.
might be an idea if she is checked out for delayed shock.

Thanks Sid. I had already considered that, but I think we'll bite the bullet and get a new car. Michelle's car is 6 years old this year and we had just decided to keep it another year, which is why we spent all that dosh on the clutch, new battery etc. This is obviously the fates telling us to change the car!
Howard
She's 67. I have to say that she's been quite subdued since the accident, which isn't to be sniffed at!

Yes, indeed this is awful Andy, hope Michelle and her Mum are O.K. no delayed injuries.
I'll keep my eyes open too.
Roger
We will keep eye open for the car with pink hub caps. Hope ladies feeling better now. I was once hit by a car in Coombe Valley Rd - went down a bit to get out of way of traffic (it was just by the old Casualty entrance) and when I got out and went back the woman had driven off. However, I was accosted a few days later by an irate gentleman, the woman's husband who accused me of leaving the scene. Suffice it to say she had not given him the true facts (she had drawn out of a parking space without looking to see if anyone was there) and I never heard another word about it.

Disgraceful Diana.
Sadly, as I've found to my cost, people lie.

Thanks Howard - and thank you for coming along; I try to be honest; I never consciously tell lies, I may make mistakes, but that's different.
