Wooden clogs? bare foot our family!!!

As MAREK/BERN says this is about the rip off charges, and hitting the very people many unable to anything but pay them

11:5527689I knew this would open the debate even further .Call me old fashioned if you like I just think so many people expect too much for nothing .I only quouted my families experiences as I think that too many people expect something for nothing .There is not a problem with cobbles . Marek .
Bern yes there were trains but miles to walk to catch one .
I will not continue this debate further as clearly I look at it from a different angle.
When you go to a hospital you know you will have to pay to park .Rightly or wrongly .If the car parks have to be maintained and security provided the money has to come from somewhere .If the NHS provided these for free then it means less money for health provision .There is a greater drain on NHS resources than ever before .Less people in work paying taxes .

12:2827691the problem as i see it is people have to decide in advance how long they are going to be in the hospital, and pay accordingly.
i wonder how much people over pay just to ensure that they do not get a penalty?

13:1727693Sue - the point of debate is to gather all the angles together and talk!

15:1527695You are right there Bern .I think perhaps not knowing all the factors of East Kent Hospital Trusts budget we are not in a position to judge .It could well be the charges need to be reviewed?
has never been part of my consideration .From a personal point of view i have usually had to rely on public transport .Time has never come into it .Both my parents weere in Essex hospitals so it was a lenghty old haul .

06:3627716I know Sue can speak up for herself very well, but I was somewhat surprised to hear such rants against her because she was relaying some stories about her family's hard times getting to hospitals years ago.
It seems to be O.K. for some to give their stories but not Sue.
I did think it was a close to a Monty Python sketch, until people starting having a go at her.
She might seem well to do, or comfortably off now, but she's been there too and can relate her earlier experiences and she still uses the buses, like every one else.

I think it was the bit about people expect things for nowt that got the debate going, I have spent some time at local hospitals over the past year (not for me) been an eye opener, my wife was a nurse for overf 20 years as well So like Sue I know a little.
But its all about debate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

09:0227744It was about just that: the patronising "these people expect owt for nowt" jibe, not about her experiences. Those are very valid, as are all the people on here, and I would like to hear about them. What I find objectionable are finger-pointing implications and assumptions about others based on self. That is what we could call lacking in empathy.

The thread was about hospital parking charges, the profits made, the distribution of these profits and the inconvenience of digging around for pound coins to park for an indeterminate period. Sue, as she is entitled, decided to tell 'ye family tales of olde' inferring that we should be grateful that we 'ad a car in the first place and therefore should welcome the car parking charges in some weird and wonderful way.
I attempted to make light of it (rather poorly I admit) and get back to the subject matter but Sue must learn to live in todays world without this continous harking back to 'when I were a kid' analogy. It would be like me commentating on the thread about a play area...'lucky *barstewards when I was a kid we had nowt but bomb sites to play on and unexploded bombs to play with..kids today don't know how lucky they are'.
But it doesn't solve the problem of finding a suitable play area does it? Get my drift?

Fine thanks. Life is a bit slower on the island and I am spending most of the school hols taking NT to various fetes and free open air films, rock and folk concert. All through summer the local museum are showing classic movies for free every night in their cosy cinema just waiting for the maltese falcon etc to come around plus I have managed a few beer festivals...hichic. Oh and parking fees are about 62p an hour. You buy a book of scratch cards and scratch off the time day date and month you parked so 1 card equals an hour scratch 4 and stay for 4 hours etc.No money machines no collection problems and cards can be used all over the island.Buy a book of cards from nearly every type of shop in Jersey.
