True Howard , people wont usually go into an unknown quantity , so to speak, opening times , all the menus avaliable and the special offers should be easily accesable from the outside

I send round regular newsletters about things going on in Dover: Public Information; Up and Coming Events and local business news.
If anyone would like to be added to the email address groups, please let me know. The emails are always sent out blind which means that no one can receive any scam or spam from them.
The email addresses are not sold to anyone so your email address is safe on my laptop.

i think the present system works well sarah, roger gathers up event info waits until he has enough for a newsletter then sends us all one.
if is see a poster or something similar advertising an event i photograph it and start a thread on here, any member is free do do so and would be welcomed.
our susan is the worst offender always telling us what a good time she had the previous evening!

I used to post them on here Sarah, but they got very few comments, so thought people weren't interested; I may be wrong of course, so could start doing that again.
On the What's On section, I have looked on there and I find that the people who advised me of their event, have already put it on here.

I thought that only Roger could post on it as it is called Roger's What's On, silly me.
Roger, why would you expect many comments, I would not have thought it was a discussion forum but purely there to give information.

Sorry Jan if I have taken a wrong view, my understanding was that this IS a discussion forum; yes, lots of info is put on here by many people and many others discuss whatever it is.
I appreciate that not all of the information in the newsletters will be pertinent to everyone one, so don't expect responses from those I send it out to - although on some of them I do.
PaulB, if others are thinking that the What's On section is just for me to post events on, then maybe it needs a new title, or just remove the Roger bit.

Roger I think you have misunderstood me, I was talking purely about the RWO and you expecting comments on the fact you had put something on there.
Maybe I have misunderstood your #65, it would not be the first time I have got the wrong end of the stick.

Sorry Jan, I wasn't saying I expected comments from putting events on the What On section, just about putting them on a "Roger's Newsletter" thread, not reeceiving many comments.

We had a meal in the new restaurant at the SeaSports Centre. It was okay but I thought quite expensive and the surroundings, notwithstanding the view were not exactly first class. You can get a similarly priced meal at the White Cliffs (whatever they call it now) with extremely pleasant and comfortable surroundings and a comparable view.

You mean the Dover Marina Hotel Diana - yes it is indeed very pleasant and at lunchtimes pretty good value, especially Thursdays when they have 2 course lunches for £9.00 something (good choices too).

Is that the old Millers? I had lunch bought for me there a while back and the company I was with was lovely, but the restaurant sucked! Kids running riot unchecked by Waynettas slurping down the "wine". Maybe it was a bad day............

Bern you are referring to Marine Court. We went there a year or so ago, Kathryn fancied the Home Made Wild Mushroom Tart, unfortunately it was unavailable because 'we've a problem with the supplier'.

that reminds me of the great scene in "fawlty towers" when a diner asks sybil to cancel the fresh fruit salad, the reply comes back "a bit tricky, chef has just opened the tin".
Peter - that made me laugh out loud!

A friend of mine was in New England and spotted Clam Chowder on a restaurant specials board. Upon asking whether the clams were fresh, he was told 'of course, we only opened the can this morning'.

Some years ago, at a well known inn in Alkham, I mentioned to our guest that 'that particular fish' (ie Haddock) was not local and the waitress overheard me and said, "Oh yes, it is local - from our local supplier!! I could not make the effort to explain that Haddock is all Deep Sea Fish and not coastal...
