14:3432045Ken this is not like you at all .You know why i came off the Cabinet .In fact Paul was fully supportive of the reasons why Sheltered schemes were demolished .Yes there are good schemes such as McCarthy and Stone
I think you are very ill informed by your new chum .Ti me will tell I have always had a lot of time for you and KeithS although different political persuasion .
Most ederly people want to stay in their own homes .KCC have a policy of cutting down on residential care God help us as most people have to rely on the private sector .The Extra Care is a provision for those who cannot always manage on their own . Buckland Court have you visited it yet ?

16:1732051I have researched my comments in great detail as I always do and I am mystified as to who my new chum is.As for you leaving the cabinet, the bitterness you exhibited on this forum intimates the decision not to have been yours but Pauls'.

17:4032117roger,re bus passes, there is common knoledge coming down from kcc/goverment that they are concidering scraping the bus passes in the next year 18 months because of a money shortfull.this means if this happens i will personly wont get a buss pass.persons like yourself are lucky in having a buss pass.

Think you should read BERN'S Comments s to what I said, for me BUCKLAND COURT is here lets make the most of it.
I wouldn't want to argue with you sue(but i will) i recall being i early discussions on this issue under a labour admin, but it doesn't realy matter.
What does concern Sue is your ref to social housing and u want to be rid of it
now that realy is a concern for me
please explain your logic behind this, what effects it would have, how will those not getting social housing be able to be housed?
what would happen to housing waiting list
On the question of SUE's departure from the cabinet, I thought after paul w's public outburst at a council meeting i attended(Osince departing from council)
Paulw was clear sue would not be in his cabinet come MAY
And that came true
My understanding was SUE dared to speak out over the big screen in the market square, he made it clear at the meeting he was leaving the debate when sue spoke wasnt interested in her imput and she wouldn't be in the cabinet after may.

11:4632165No Keith I do not want to get rid of Social Housing .What i would like to see is the sometimes stigma ,call it what you will obout people who live in Social Housing removed..It is better these days that we have moved away from Corporation or Council Housing .If I could change the world you would not know who lived in what type of housing .I once tried to get the word Estate removed and there was an uproar .Every new build of Social Housing should be like where I live .It is difficult to know who occupies which property .
All those awfull signs should be removed which still have DDC crest on them .
Not everyone can buy their own home indeed some prefer to rent .What we do need to do is to encourage people to be truly independant from the welefare state .That means ensuring there is there are the jobs in the area ,all children reach their potential at school .Providing a clean and pleasant environment in which they live .Ensuring those who really are in need receive help but not handouts for those who brag they live on the social .
I have always been fully aware there are those who are in need .It does not make me a lesser person because I think some can help themselves more .

13:2332170In a properly equal and egalitarian society there would be no stigma - every individual would be valued as an individual with individual aspirations and needs - including housing. This would make it easier to make equal demands on people within their limitations and individual skills and abilities. The words we use to describe things impacts hugely on how we see the people using them, and on our responses to those people. And that informs their response to the society in which they live.
The kind of social mentality that made it acceptable across the UK to build enormous multi-bed residential homes named after dead councillors a few years ago in an apparent endorsement of the warehousing of our elders led to a real brake on social development and equality. Hopefully we now realise how important it is for people to control and manage their own lives, whatever their age or abilities. There are still too many nursing homes in which the people living there never feel the rain or the wind on their faces because there are too few staff to enable them to go out and the lack of will to buy or use the right equipment to promote and encouirage independence. And this is apparently ok?

15:2132181susan makes a very good point about the stigma of social housing.
is there really a need for all these signs to let people know that the council of a housign association own them?
someone working hard on a low wage hardly needs reminding when he/she reaches home that they are lower down the so called social ladder.

15:2732183I don't think anyone feels
(or they shouldnt feel) that anyone is any better than themselves
What is most important is they have there family around them, a roof over there heads, enough food etc.
But there is a need for council houses(ir whatever term Sue may like to call them in the future)
On the question of benefits, this is a subject that SUE/ROGER/BARRYW could probably have very much the same views as myself The only diffrences being how to get the best results.

16:4832190Of course no-one should feel de-valued by theri choice of housing, but the reality is that they often do. That can't be right.
