Always brilliant Red Arrows even if they are only parked up! The wife was happy it did a flypast of our garden in Deal that I arranged for her
Any the star of the show with a very low close flypast !
Been nice knowing you :)
So very good, thank you!

Great photos - well done Scotchie.
I loved the Lancaster - so evocative of times past, especially the drone of the engine and seeing quite closely, the four propelers.
Didn't see the Red Arrows as I'd left about 6 ish.
Lots of people were asking about leaflets/brochures of the day's events, some had them, but lots didn't.
Surprised that the only Italians were ones down from London selling Italian liquor.
There weren't any French in there either as they were all along the seafront - I guess, I didn't out of the marquee much yesterday.
I don't think I've EVER seen so many people along the seafront.

Lot more rather indifferent photos on my fotopic site, hopefully capturing a bit of a flavour of the event:

Great shots of the Lanc. Many years ago I built the Tamya 1/48 scale model of the Lanc and that remains the best kit of this superb aircraft. I still get the temptation every now and then to make a model, just not the time....

Parachutists, stunt plane display and the legendary Spitfire today.
Photographed from our flat in Victoria Park and added to my fotopic site:

Bit of a scoop here. Dashed round to the Duke of Yorks just as they were packing up. The Bleriot XI which was flown across from Calais this morning was being dismantled in a marquee. Took some photos and marvelled at how fragile the little aeroplane was. The Swedish pilot, Mikael Carlson, was polishing the fuselage (his day job is flying 737's).
Took the opportunity of conducting an exclusive interview which went as follows:
Me: "Wow, you don't mean to say you flew that!"
Mikael Carlson: "Yes, flew across the Channel this morning."
Me: "I say, well done!"
Perfect end to a really outstanding couple of days.

Well done Ed!
We were just coming out of Aldi when I said "A Merlin!". Sure enough up in the sky was the Spitfire with it's unmistakable engine sound. That pilot sure pulled a few G's.
All in all a cracking weekend

It really was!! A weekend so unforgettable! I can't remember the last time Dover had such a good one. Well done, again!
Amazing event, well done everyone. Red Arrows were a bit of a let-down though - it was a bit "blink and you miss it". What happened to the amazing showy stuff they used to do? Does health and safety prevent them from doing stunts these days?

Red Arrows was alway a (free if you ask well in advance) fly-by. Dover was en route between two other displays
Been nice knowing you :)

As Scotchie says, it was booked as a flypast although I know a lot of people thought there was going to be a full display. All the roads around Dover with a vantage point were packed with cars along the verges.
From the Red Arrows website:
"The Team also complete many flypasts each summer as they transit from display to display. The Red Arrows' display season generally begins in May and finishes in September each year, and the Team are unable to perform flypasts outside this period. Flypasts, with very rare exceptions, are permitted only when the Red Arrows are already in transit close to where the flypast is required. They are not programmed to do flypasts that involve a considerable deviation from the planned route because this would incur extra fuel and aircraft operating costs."
La Patrouille de France were right behind them. The RAF and the French airforce share the red, white and blue colours with the order reversed, and I was amused to see that the jet exhaust trails were coloured in similar reverse fashion.

Very professional and evocative set of photos by Vintage at:

I remember one extraordinary photo he put on Dover Forum during the 2006 regatta which must be the best ever of the Red Arrows.

Yes well done guys a great thread...love it all. Have had those pictures over from Ken B(Vintage) and all very good. Ive only seen them this morning though so unfortunately a bit late for my frontpage. Yes Ed I still have his classic shot of old of the Red Arrows. Have used it once or twice since but of course always credit Ken.
Just to go back to Ricks point and I did mention it on the frontpage too, a great many people expected a display from the Red Arrows. The word that it was just a flypast had not reached out into the community. I felt sad, I really did, for the thousands and thousands that came here to the seafront. They were clearly bewildered that it had ended in a second.
The flypast was utterly fantastic by both display teams. Awesome!

Wonderful to see the Spitfire pic - once again I missed it all. The wrong weekend for me!
Thats twice now in a month that the Red Arrows have disappointed with people expecting a display only to have a flypast

BarryW I dont think though, to be as fair as possible, that its the fault of the Red Arrows because everybody loves them, but the fault lies in getting the message out which as we know is an age old problem here in Dover.
Such a brief taster was always going to disappoint such a huge crowd though.

I've heard another reason why the Red Arrows could not display is that DHB refused to stop port traffic for 20 minutes due to the potential loss of income. Again, I can't verify this but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it were true.

Great video - cockpit view of flying over Dover and coming in to land at the DOYS.

Mike's been quick off the mark with this compilation. Nice to see the Bleriot XI given that many of us never saw one all weekend!
