Excellent news. That will save driving to Hawkinge or Canterbury. It's well placed to serve the new developments as well.

Won't please Tesco but I won't using it, like Aldi they only have trolleys which is no good to me Who buys no more than six items.

Both Aldi and lidl have baskets Howard we use both and have never used a trolley in either as we too only buy half a dozen items at most.

When did you last use Aldi or Lidl, Howard? They've had baskets for ages!

Never actually been inside a Lidl but I went into the Dover Aldi probably over 5 years ago and there were no baskets.

Time for another visit, Howard. It will save you money! To my recollection, Lidl have always had baskets.

Aldi had baskets years ago but people kept taking them out to their cars never to be seen again hence no baskets left. They have plenty of them now but you are not allowed to take them out of the store.

Try going out with one now Andy and the alarm goes off!
Getting back to Lidl, if only they could have been at DTIZ. But then if Dover had a tombstone "If only" would be written on it.

In my opinion DTIZ is a case of to little to late but I hope I am wrong.

We take a large carrier bag into Aldi and fill it as we go round, empty it onto the checkout belt than repack after paying. Simples!

I think it's good that some of that unused land is being put to use.

Lidl are a bit less frenetic at the checkout Peter.
For those who can't keep up I recommend Morrisons, very sedate.

Why don't you just use the baskets provided?

Bags are lighter and less cumbersome. Our habit dates from the time when Aldi/Lidl didn't provide baskets but has been reinforced now that you have to pay for bags anyway.

You've always had to pay for bags in Aldi and Lidl - but they are stronger than most supermarket ones.

Workmen on the site this morning. It looked as though they were doing test borings.

Bargain supermarket giant Lidl has been granted planning permission for a new store at Honeywood Retail Park in Whitfield.
The store will create 40 new jobs and boast 159 parking spaces. Dover District Council revealed the news today.
The new Lidl is expected to open in late 2017. It will feature a new store format with wider aisles and self-service tills.

Not good news for the town centre but as so many businesses prefer to build their own units Whitfield still has the space for them to do so.
