If the local council started fining firms that let their buildings fall into disrepair it might just might kick some of them into taking action.
I tried to attend a DDC Prevarication Meeting but when I arrived there was a sign on the door stating the meeting had been 'postponed'...lol..

all councils have powers to take action about bad landlords.
just a matter whether they think it important enough.
hastings thought it was and got results in a very short time.

But iv seen Dover got for 2 landlords but it was a very costly affair and one 1 the council was heavily had a go at when they took one on.
would be interesting to know how other councils get away with it

It's not so much " how other Council's get away with it" more a case of how do they achieve success.

"getting away with it" or "achieving success"?
does it mean that much?
surely our council leader could speak to theirs.
Yes, Howard, the words we use ematter, because they inform how we view things and how we act. Getting away with it has all the implications of underhand skullduggery, but achieving success implies planning, skill, strategy, intelligence. And if it stand up to scrutiny we can do it again!

From Bern: "Perhaps a degree of militancy is a good idea? There are so many people who have had a bellyful of the prevarication, semi-demi-truths and simple poor management and we are, let's be honest, witnessing a beautiful, historic, potentially thriving Town (so near to so much, so close to so many potential visitors and customers......) be abused and neglected by people WE are paying to manage things. They can't even get Wetherspoons to tidy up a decaying facade, even cosmetically. We have voted again - what else is there to do?! But what we want is real, visible, action. Not intimations that "truth will out" or promises of action in the future (again), but actual action now, that we can see, taste, touch and hear. What do you say....?!"
No truer words have been said. Action. Now!

OK so not best choice of words, probably like many it was out of frustration, seeing so little being done, seeing town die, waiting fot DITZ
So it does become frustrating
