I know I have said this alot over the years ,but I do feel that the planning dept at the D.D.C. is not working for Dover,we are all going to the polls again soon to vote in new cllrs and councils both at District and Town please again vote for the person standing and not the party if we get the right teams in both councils that will work with each other and for the best for both Dover and Deal, but again just talking about Dover it is the planning dept that is the hold up Mr Watkins is not a bad leader and I feel he should stay there but he must make changes with some of his officers in planning and also look at seeing if he has the right cllrs in the right dept over seeing what is going on.

vic
the next council elections are still 11 months away.
also i doubt that a new set of councillors will do any better with the planning department, they have government guidelines which they have to follow. there is some leeway in certain instances but i doubt that political pressure will not really change anything dramatically.

HOWARD;/vic
Its correct the planning officers have in some cases strict guildines, and whilst some cllrs changing may change a few things, councils have such little power to change things these days that i dont think things will change.
I'v made it clear on here how i'm no great fan of the planning dept, and having seen how they work and how they can stop or allow something is interesting.
let me give you an example;
I wont name the place to protect everyone lol
Two dis used house that were homes to drug dealing/using was up to be knocked down and a very nice establishment to replace it.
When i SUPPORTED this application because getting rid of drug dealers, and getting someone to pay for a nw build and brightemn the area was a gd move.
At the planning committee the chief officer made so many reasons why this application had to be REFUSED!!! not believing my ears, I went for a site meeting where the cllrs go on site to look at the place and then the sub committee at the site meeting report back to the full committee.
at the site meeting i said nothing different than what i said at the full planning committee.
At the end the chair said to the officer "how can we accept" this appliocation
The officer who at the planning committee was adament it must be refused, then outlined how it could be passed!!!!
And it was!!!
Just remember there was no NEW evidence for the officer to change his mind!
Then you can see why I have concerns about the planning dept
One of the problems is that local politics always attracts certain members of the 'petite bourgeoisie', who pressed on by their formidable wives in the local Conservative Association, the other butchers, bakers and candlestick makers in their club/lodge/organisation, or fellow luddites in the local branch of their union think that being a councillor will somehow prove their existence in their dreary lot on earth.
It's the equivalent of the local louts spray painting their name around town as they know it's their only chance of being known at all. All a bit sad really.
The councillors instead spray their name and photographs around the local media before returning behind their shop counters to serve us whilst miscounting our change.

BOB
I think you mis judge many hard working councillors from all political parties

The fact that a person is hard working is neither here nor there.
If I spent all day digging holes and then filling them in I would be hard working but totally non productive.

Howard, thank you for you kind offer of membership of the lodge.
Unfortunately my lack of belief in any form of Great (or even Lesser) Architect precludes me from taking up your offer.
You'll just have to find someone else who is willing to pretend to be concerned about the plight of the local estate agent he is stuck next to at dinner.
I can assure you that the only time I am likely to be seen with a rolled up trouser leg is when I have forgotten my bicycle clips!

I think we are in agreement that the DDC planning dept is not a good one and is in need of a big change so over to you Mr Watkins is that going to happen?or is it the old school tie job.
I am not in agreement Vic, because I don't know enough about how planning in local government is meant to work to give a valid opinion.
