Wonder if this bigger issue will be an election issue for people?
Will reform break through?

It's a big election issue, because the Tories went out of their way to make it one. However, they never had any intention of actually solving the issue, they wanted to make it one of their "wedge" issues with Labour. What they thought would happen is that they could simply say that Judges, the Courts, Labour, the Lords, Gary Lineker, the weather.....were the problem and they'd get a free pass. That hasn't happened and they will pay the price.

Without realising it, Britain has become a nation of immigrants
(Another surprise: it’s very good at assimilating people)

We promised to reduce the number of hotels used to house asylum seekers.
We are delivering on that promise.
By the start of May, we will have been returned 150 hotels back to their communities

In the early 80’s I lived and worked in Calais. It was a lovely place to be. My friend is a local that lives there and he told me that now there are many areas, not just in Calais , that are no go areas because of the threat of migrants attacking locals. Seemingly they do, but those migrants are likely waiting their turn to get on a boat to come here…..worrying.
Sometimes I wonder if the French police are happy for them to leave their area

Not half as obsessed as successive governments have been over the last quarter century.

With the money that has been wasted on ineffectual schemes a solution to the Channel crossings might have been found. The one that irritates me the most is seeing the Gendarmes (that we help pay for) standing on the French beach almost waving off the over loaded boats.

Numbers update.
534 migrants in 10 boats crossed the Channel yesterday – the highest daily figure this year. It brings the total for 2024 to 6,265 people – that’s an increase of 28% on the same period last year.

Your dinghy appears to have missed the coast, KS, and drifted into open choppy waters.
Do you have a flare?

You just can't get the staff! But what do you expect when Border Force locally will employ anyone with a pulse even if they are only willing to work part-time?
