Glad Sajid got it sorted. 'At least 250 migrants were intercepted in the Channel between January and November 2018'.

You couldn't make it up!
Just heard the news that we're sending armed troops to protect the Polish border with Belarus....

But we weren't sending them back before Brexit?

…and the French weren’t actively encouraging them as much as they are doing so now either.
The problems on the Belarus Polish border with migrants goes to prove how effective it can be and eventually we will see more being shunted across Europe to the U.K.
Just goes to show how a trade disagreement can escalate into acts of war with our ‘friends’ in the EU.
Do nothing and nothing happens.

From the House of Commons library, briefing paper 9031, figures for 2019.
The UK made 3,259 transfer requests to EU member states, and 263 transfers took place. 40% (104) went to Germany and 20% (53) went to France.
This was the final year of the 'grace' period. Make of the figures what you will but it's not true to say we weren't trying to send asylum seekers back.
And I can assure you ( mainly for Bob's benefit) that after 15 years working in Northern France dealing wth the Douane and PAF on a daily basis, that there is no orchestrated encouragement for asylum seekers to make these crossings.

If the UK authorities have any sense, they will be going through all these asylum seekers and finding out what skills they have
Lorry drivers, supermarket staff, care workers, agricultural workers etc, all needed

But we are only looking at about 400,000 illegal arrivals p.a. at last Thursday's rate. Four million over ten years. That is trivial. They can easily fit into England - there is plenty of room and no pressure on housing, environment, Health Service etc.
We should take in all the refugees in Belarus as well. It is our moral duty. They should be our top priority. Anyone who disagrees is racist*.

Oh dear. Below is from the House of Commons library again. It's quite easy to check the facts before you post BS, if you're prepared to expend a little effort.
The number of asylum applications to the UK peaked in 2002 at 84,132. After that the number fell sharply to reach a twenty-year low point of 17,916 in 2010, before rising again to reach 35,737 in 2019.
The number of applications fell slightly to 29,456 applications in 2020, as the combined result of far fewer arrivals by air and an increase in arrivals by small boat across the English Channel.
Asylum seekers made up around 6% of immigrants to the UK in 2019.

There is a huge difference between genuine
asylum seekers and illegal immigrants now also known as boat people. As a nation we rightly accept the first but unfortunately the latter also seem to be slipping through our incredibly slow system.
What disturbs me the most are the ITN news pictures from France's beaches of French police watching the over filled boats being launched. Not only does it prove they do F all to stop the launch but also they are actively putting the lives of adults and especially children at risk. It makes me assume France has no active life endangerment laws or are turning a blind eye just so they can get rid of these people.
