I have one more thing to say about it.
At that time we all said that was not fair to the rest of Dover and we send aletter to D.D.C telling them just that.
What as happen from that time to now I do not know, but you still have not got your play area, or have you now got one? you tell me.

I know about that one so you do not have the new one, all I can say you have voted me back in and I would have still been on it today, but it is down to all of you now to write letters asking where that fund has gone, and get on to your D.D.C.and D.T.C. Cllrs about it.
But I can not help you in this matter it is not my area anymore.
I remain yours faithfully Cllr Vic Matcham

Vic/howardThis has been ongoing for some time, and amongst others cllr munt, priory forum have been pushing the District council to put back what they STOLE
Ok it was for good reason why it was dismantled but had anyone known it would take so long to replace the dismantling would not have got support.
It appears now the council is not looking at the clarendon play area because parents are eluctant to send kids to that area because its a long way from the road, and its costly to the council to get rid of the hills(even it out)
The money should still be in place, and be assured will be pressed to have a play area back in priory.

Good morning Paul,
Well thank goodness for that. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's getting fed up with all the trouble making on this issue by certain ill informed people. They come on here with half a story, mostly made up, and incite others to believe them. Poor Sue tries so hard to keep us up with the TRUE facts bless her. Anyway at last we will get the truth, which no doubt the usual three will try to argue with but I know who I'll believe! Come back Nigel!!

If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things.

You ar corrct Sue is speaking the truth! what I'm saying(and not bending the truth) because people should know, its t late when it starts happening!
25 play areas ae likely to close, at the mo no one has producd the ls of play area closures, If none are to close and the 25 have now been saved I will be the first to apologise to Sue.
But in Sues posting she is saying they are concentrating on strategic sites, and hoping town/parish council will take on rest, if the don't then a closure programme is in place.
No good moaning when it happens.
Iv said on here before Sue works hard, never doubted that.
just informing people of this programme
over to you Sue/john

Surely the point is now that Nigel and Sue have told us that we are to have two fantastic play areas for the children. Is it not better to have a few good ones than 25 or so run down ones. The council obviously can't afford to finance all the existing play areas so I think they've chosen wisely to build these two.
When my kids were small we lived a bus ride away from the nearest playpark, but my kids enjoyed the ride on the bus, or we would walk which gave them healthy fresh air and exercise. The existing one in Pencester is central so easily accessible for everyone. In this day and age people should not be encouraged to have everything on their doorstep, more exercise might decrease the ever growing problem of obese children. Apart from that, what is wrong in giving them a ball, skipping ropes, hoola hoops or other outdoor toys to play on the nearest green area? Is it really necessary to have state of the art play equipment all the time. I saw a report on the local news recently, I can't think where it was now, where a school opened its playgrounds and sports equipment for kids to use after school and in their holidays - what a great idea.
Also there is in Folkestone a big, kids park ,below the Leas where people take their children, apart from the indoor play schemes both in Dover (Whitfield) and Folkestone. There is plenty out there for the children, you just have to use your legs.
Maybe I'll be slammed for saying this, but I can't help thinking that in some cases people want these things on their doorstep so they can just get the kids out of the house and out from under their feet.
So in short Mr Sansum I would say that play parks may be closed but there are others and there are always nice open spaces to take your children where they can play safely and happilly. So do stop being so negative and promote all the ways we have at our disposal to amuse our children, without sniping at the council for doing what they can.
Well done Sue and Nigel

Well said Jacqui
When I was a kid, (more years than I wish to remember) we used to go to what I guess they would call now, a strategic play area - Clarence Park in St. Albans. It had everything a kid could wish for to play on, but it was quite a long way from where we lived - at least half an hours walk or more, or a bus ride if we had the money.
We never dreamt of demandinga play area on our doorstep - that was what we had, get on with it.
Maybe there was more playing in the streets then (middle/late 50's, perhaps early 60's), cars were fairly prevalent, even then, so it wasn't just the odd horse and cart that came up the road.
It was a council house we lived in and a council estate we lived on, but a civilised one - no gangs in those days (not like you have nowadays anyway), groups of kids though, but not intent on trouble making at all, just having innocent fun.
There was no council involvement in how you ran your life either - you got on with your life as you saw fit; you didn't cause trouble and so no one bothered you - Police or the Counci.
How different now.

By whom ?
Roger
may i just say from a personal point of veiw, the closure of our play area in clarendon has had a massive social effect on all the kids in my area. i do not allow my kids to play in the street, 6 and 7 yer olds, i think need costant supervision which i can not do while looking after a 20 month old and a 6 month old. the alley's are out of the question, we have so many immagrant families who's kids are allowed to hang out in the alleys in large groups of 15+ my little ones feel very intimadated. plus the state of the alleys is a heath hazzard.
clarendon is a deprived area, but that doesnt mean my kids should be deprived of a play area.
"talks are in place" "we are looking at another area" is not good enough, we need action not a talking shop. i just want to know when and where am i going to get a play area that i can take the kids too? will my babies be to old to enjoy it when it eventually arrives?

Roger,
Sues posting on 22nd april is saying the council is to look at only maintaining strategic sites, this has never been denied.it has been badly defended, like, we are talking to others.
so if thats so, how far have these talks got, are the town councils going to take them all on, i suspect not, if not what happens next(presume the 25 play areas go?)
why all this secrecy?

at the end of the day, i would go along with what heidi and keith have posted.
1) does the money exist or not?
2) would a responsible parent nowadays let their kids play with the traffic, or go a long way away out of their jurisdiction.?
