The yahoo news on here tells us that the pope will be arrested when he comes to Britain in September. A solicitor has stated that it will be legal, as he is not a head of state. He will be charged with his involvement with the child abuse scandals.

Apparently, Mussolini declared it as a state, but it`s not recognised as such in international law. I am only quoting yahoo again.

Richard Dawkins, a world authority on evolution and other sciences, as well as a well known aetheist, is applying for a warrant, together with another man, for the pope`s arrest as soon as he lands in Britain. It won`t happen of course, but it is all above board.

All part of the Vatican's plan to take back control of the English Church. There is now a move to allow for a Catholic Monarch! How can that be allowed, their first duty would be to cow tow to Rome and break up the Church of England.
If Popey arrives I hope they do arrest him. However, he will then apply for asylum, live of the state for 5 years and then be given the freedom to stay and a house to live in. That is how it works isn't it?

you can be so cynical sometimes sid, not far out though, we harbour terrorists from all over the globe.
Catholics no longer "cowtow" to Rome and haven't done for some time. Intellectual Catholics (I think I can probably count myself.....!) have long made their own mind up about what is doctine, what is faith, what is superstition and what is power n control. I actually have had enough of the Vaticans long drawn out apology and fancy-footwork around this issue - abuse of power - and would welcome some action that forced a statement and retribution for those involved in any abuse. We must remember, also, though, that - as with racism and sexism - we live in different times and need to factor in the generational gaps. It is not that long ago that my Dad came to the UK from Ireland and was shunned, forcibly and sometimes violently, by the white anglo saxon natives. It is not that long since children were expected to work in the mines and mills. I remember a music hall song still popular in my childhood about " seated one day at the organ , weary and ill at ease, my hands wandered idly over the choirboys knees" sung by a "vicar". It wasn't only Catholics, and it wasn't that long ago that it was "ok".
Bern, I was hanging on every word until you said, " I remember a music hall song". Now, come on, you are defo far too young, in mind if nothing else, for any of that old stuff.
My joints, this evening, beg to differ................plus I spent the weekend with my Mother in Ireland listening to her singing all the old favourites. Did I mention I was a Saint............?

I will avoid any temptation to post a St Bernard joke at this juncture on the grounds it may be my last post if I did. Anyway Bern, you are a rare commodity, a female who can quote Python, and that means you are more than okay by me.

Hey Bern, I object to your post: we Dovorians are not necessarily white anglo saxons. I prefer to think of us as at least half Roman!!

a bit like the famous "blood donor" sketch where hancock has just refused to give some blood.
the doctor says that it is a pity that he has a rare blood group, rhesus negtaive.
hancock looks indignant and replies "rhesus"? "they're monkeys, how dare you, i did not come here to be insulted by a legalised vampire."

The Pope is due to visit Malta this coming weekend, and the mayor of Luqa is demanding that this "Phallic" sculpture be removed from display as an act of respect for the pope`s visit. He passes this sculpture en route apparently. The Maltese government are remaining silent.
