This Christmas Day the centre will be opening to all those senior Dover residents who would normally spend the day alone including married couples. As the centre can only cater for 60, the opportunity will be offered initially to those who attend the centre and then to others with hopefully those unable to attend being offered a meal at home plus a gift.
The idea is to give not only a Christmas dinner but a full traditional Christmas Day, an evening meal to take with them, transport to and from the centre and gifts.
Without hesitation Rooks offered the meats for the day and I have written to all major stores in the Town asking for specific food items.
As the day will be free to those attending I am going to seek funding from various sources but would wekcome ideas to raise enough funds to cover the gifts.

Good luck with all that Ken...a noble endeavour. Good to see Rooks giving back something to the community without hesitation. Thats first rate... because they are from the area they probably feel more in tune with local happenings. Harder to get the national chains onboard but our man Roger might have some contacts following his recent fundraising for the LD LInes/Visit Dover leaflet.

I could pop in and sing a few tunes for them in the evening (not too loud of course!)
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

Its good to see the community opening their arms to the elderly at 'Christmastime', it must a difficult time for many at that time of year.

Hi Ken,
I have a little side line in Body Shop Products - would be happy to put together a few gifts for your ladies. Cant do them all but I could probably do about 10 gift sets if that helps.
Just let me know where to send them.

This story really has the wow factor! So nice to read of something being done for the old folk at Christmas, specially the ones who would be alone otherwise. Also the support from people like Ken, Sheli and Buddy - gives you a nice warm feeling don't you think? Well done to all concerned

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Keith as a pensioner are you asking me to use my winter fuel allowance to buy presents?
On the main subject, we are totally ecstatic about the response we are receiving from everyone and if any forumites expect to spend Christmas Day alone then come along as a volunteer and enjoy the day and have a lovely dinner as well.
