What on earth is going on regarding rubbish collection, I have a small container for plastics, not big enough so put plastics in plastic sack, and recycle-able carrier bags, and place on the box, so rubbish does not go everywhere, a fortnight ago and today collection men rip open sack empty plastic bottles etc, then put the recycle-able carrier bags and plastic bag back into box, all ripped open so cannot reuse, for it to blow everywhere.
We were told we had to have these containers and unsightly bins to recycle these items, but evidently plastic is not plastic, or recycle-able bags are not recycle-able anymore, so instead of recycling I will be putting it all in my normal household collection, what on earth do we pay council tax for.

I've sent your posting to waste services Sheila, asking if what you are doing is acceptable for how waste/rubbish should be put out; if what you are doing is correct, the the rubbish collectors need (and will be) to be spoken to.

Strangely enough they take anything and everything in London Road, black bags included. I did note last week Mr PJ and two chaps from the contractors taking notes.

They take anything and everything from the Clarendons, can't see why it is different in Westbury road.

I've had a reply already from Waste Services, here it is:
Cllr Walkden.
"Plastic sacks and bags are not recyclable and should not be presented for collection in the recycling bins or boxes. Where items are left in a bag , the contents can be taken but due to the high rates of contamination currently being reported, the bags will not be taken. Recycling should be left loose in the bin/box for collection. Cards are left by the contractors if the bin/box is not emptied and the reason is marked on the card
Regards.
How exactly does this compare with how you put your rubbish out Sheila ? It sounds slightl;y different.
DDC and Veolia have a contract for waste collection and the conditions are quite strict, so I will let Paul know where they seem to be deviating.

The house that's being "done up" not a million miles from me has had it's back garden partly cleared of ivy. About 8 purple sacks (they have wheelie bins as well) full of leaves and stalks have just been taken!

being a small box, I put plastic in Black sack, so as not to have stuff go all over the place, then place bag on top of bin so they know its plastic, up until now this has been OK, if the black sack is not recycle-able the carrier bags inside definitely are, Morrisons, Tesco and Coop do recycle-able bags, if these are not recycle-able, then what did these firms pay for to have them changed from a stronger carrier to a wafer thin carrier supposibly recycle-able. to me its just an excuse, not everyone can have or want a dirty great bin sitting outside their window, creating a health hazard with flies, anyway I have nowhere to put large bins, from now on with the advice from the bin men put out with general rubbish, and that is what I am going to do

The thing to remember with regards to recycling is that it depends on the processing plant used by the contractor as to what can and can't be recycled. The service used by Dover, and I believe all other East Kent local authorities, does not process plastic bags, or "crumpled" plastics. So, whilst some plastics may have the recycling triangle, they can't be recycled through the local service. There is a full list on the DDC website, but basically this means plastic tubs, yoghurt pots, food trays, etc. can go in your recycling bin, but not plastic bags. If people have a glut of plastic carrier bags many of the supermarkets have their own recycling points for these. Hope this information is of some use to others.

Ever since the start of recycling by DDC we have been told not to use plastic carrier bags and black sacks so it is not exactly a surprise the bin men would not take them.
Sheila why not ask for another box or you could use a supermarket kind of bag for life which the men can empty.

using the boxes wouldn't be to bad if they had lids, this would stop contents getting blown out and littering the area, which is like a rubbish tip anyway, not a very well thought idea, my rubbish is always contained until collection day, so does not get scattered everywhere, I just end up with other peoples rubbish getting blown out of their boxes and coming down in my area, as said not very well thought out, with lids this would not happen

Underdown Road earlier - not the first time this stunt has been pulled. Someone pushes their overflowing bin to a junction of the alleyway well away from the houses.

The's a settee in the river behind the Cherry Tree scrapyard, a long way to carry it just to dump it.

These bins need emptying weekly not fortnightly, if you have a large family the bin is full within days no wonder they overflow, people try and do the right thing, but whatever you do the council want to penalise you, today we took some rubbish to the tip, on arrival started to put into right skips as provided, we had a motor cycle tyre that was no good, and was told if we wanted to leave it we would have to pay £5, ?? what for, surely its better took to the tip, than chucked on the road side.

What a silly short-sighted policy from DDC, surely if someone takes rubbish to the tip it should be accepted regardless of what it is.
We seldom fill our rubbish bin so we would have put the wheel in the bin so would have got rid of it for free and it would have gone to landfill.

I believe it is KCC that make the rules about tips not DDC.
Underdown Road and Longfield Road are clear of rubbish now, I notified Peter Wallace of the problem late yesterday afternoon and he must have got on to Waste services for them to get a street cleaner out this morning.
