Calmer Waters for the Ferry Operators

Now that the Port has announced a freezing of ferry tariffs for the next six months a much more buoyant mood prevails in harbour circles..

Carsten Jensen, Senior Vice President English Channel, DFDS Seaways, speaking on behalf of Ferry Operators said: "DFDS is pleased with the flexibility shown by the Port of Dover in this case by allowing more time to listen to the operators before a final decision is made. We welcome the Port's willingness to engage in discussions about our concerns in this matter and look forward to a constructive dialogue that will hopefully materialize in a reasonable result."

This could be the result of having a new man at the helm down there at the Port ( Tim Waggott) now that Bob Goldfield is winding down.

Carnival Cruise Line come .... and go! Carnival returns to Dover this year with the maiden call of Carnival Legend on 21 June. However, they have already announced that they will not be coming to Europe in 2014 citing high air fares.

And speaking of beasts..this whopper is in today. Is it beauty? is it beast?
whatever it is, it is now gracing our harbour in fine style. No matter what opinion is..it is quite striking no matter how you look at it. Time to take a stroll down to the harbour and see another fantastic rare beast. Get snapping.

Conditions are a bit grey at the moment sadly,, but here she is arriving...was praying for a bit of sunshine but no.

and here we are at rest or almost..final manoeuvering below.

Oh Mr Boland ....... that's a whopper!

She's certainly a beautiful ship and she looks like a ship, unlike some of the newest liners. Nice photos.

Well here we go again but I'm afraid there are no cruise ships until Thursday 23rd May, when we see the second Costa this season in the shape of the beautiful Costa NeoRomantica arrive at CT1, T/R+PoC

The following day Friday 24th May, two cruise ships arrive, the familiar Braemar is back at CT1, T/R & this time it's the turn of the MV Voyager at CT2, PoC,(we saw her sister ship not so long ago on May 7th, the MV Empress)

Two more on Saturday 25th May, the first of the Saga's this season arrives with the Saga Ruby at at CT1, T/R, & the Explorer first time here to my knowledge, at CT2, T/R.

No cruise ships then until Tuesday 28th May when another Saga arrives, the Saga Sapphire at CT1, T/R & on Wednesday 29th the Saga Ruby returns from her short cruise.

Then a real treat on Saturday 1st June when the first of the Princess Cruise lines arrive this season, the Magnificent Ocean Princess at CT2, T/R. as well as the return of the Ryndam from her two week cruise, CT1, T/R.

No cruise ship on Sunday 2nd June. Have fun, get those cameras out

lol re comments above there..

But now ....
The spirit of Biggles is alive and well in dear ol' Blighty..
I heard their conversation yesterday and it went something like this.
"Chocks away Spiffy!"
and then with an earnest reply of busting enthusiasm
"Righty-ho skipper!"

Then Biggles himself, with glowing profile, leaned forward, turned the key in the ignition and the propeller began to whirl round.
"Pretty soon we'll be whizzing across the continent to show those blighters!"
Then with leather caps firmly in place, flying jackets trussed up to max, and goggles at the ready...
"Talllly Hoooo !"

and they were off to the Mille Miglia.

"Mind that cross-wind Spiffy!"

"Tally Hooooo !"

and now back to reality
The Costa Romantica in unfortunate weather conditions. rain etc. best I could do..
have better pictures of her previously but here she is arriving this morning..lovely ship.

It was just a one off at Millers Howard, but there seems to be quite a few meandering about. perhaps they're all off to the italian classic Mille Miglia as mentioned..who knows but all a bit of fun. A throw back to former times. I loved the way they had all the gear.

Here is a further pic of the Costa neoRomantica ..Ive gone with a wide view as one minute its in deep shade the next blazing sunlight. Such weather eh !

But Biggles and co made my day in the pix above..
