Chris tells me that she has had some people in her Bird Cage ladies clothing shop in the Charlton Centre wanting to use Euros so they may have struggled all the way up from the Costa neoRomantica. She has rung me for the exchange rate and is going to start taking Euros in future.

Weather is a bit unfortunate rain/sleetwise etc and very cold to boot so a bit disappointing for the visitors.. praying for Spring.

Ed yes its an all German final and taking place at Wembley. As far as I can remember that's a first. Two fantastic teams from the Bundesliga.. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, and with some fantastic players on show. These two dispatched the Spanish giants bigtime. I will be watching for sure. Fully equipped for a night of it with me Pinot and Pot Noodles!

Dumbfounded in Dover
Yesterday all day long we had an exciting Rowing Regatta in the harbour. Had not heard a thing about it beforehand so was surprised to see all the sporting crowd arriving. Here are a few pictures from it..
Going hammer and tongs above there...the full length of the harbour, turn and come back at quite a pace. Quite exhausting Got tired just looking at them. But well done all round.. perhaps an Olympian will emerge in due course.
The crowd made a good day of it..as you can see..enjoying the sunshine and picnicking etc
Another tough race. In the background there you can see MV Explorer..very small and exclusive type ship..dont remember seeing that one before. Also in yesterday was The Saga Ruby..for those who like the delightfully old fashioned. - 29 May 2013 06:47231334Well we have featured the sublime many times on this thread but now we go for the ridiculous..or perhaps just the not so sublime..
As you can see the young chaps on the pier were sensibly focusing their attention on the water the other side of said pier and were leaping in gaily..but nobody dared to jump into the mess on show here. What it is I know not, but all the young guys were showing some sense and steering clear..ermmm just in case.

Last word on cars: my brother-in-law is home from deepsea and I helped him removed a perished radiator hose from his Alfa Romeo Giulietta the other day. The registration number is one which Neo-Nazis would appreciate - an abbreviated Adolf Hitler.

As Brian says, the muck on the water is algal bloom which manifests itself at this time of the year. It is not so bad in Dover where there are strong circulatory currents continuously washing it away but can look disgusting in Dunkerque West where it forms horrible great creamy clumps all over the surface. It is stirred up by the ships propellers and thrusters.
At the moment there is not that much of it around but it is present all over the Dover Strait in isolated striations, looking like soap suds on the surface.
