Speaking of carbon fibre composite...I remember back in the seventies on motorbikes, during that lull period when British bikes were failing and the Japanese had not quite taken complete hold, there were many home grown produced bikes on the road, semi racers with carbon fibre tanks, clip ons, rearsets, and yes before too long there were many fires from yes...the carbon fibre tanks. The tanks were eventually outlawed. I remember being gutted at the time as I had my eye on one such bike.We had to be protected from ourselves by big government in those days! Whats new!
Good looking idea though re that fastcraft..shame about the fire and the carbon fibre.
Yes Howard ditto re the correspondences with Curt. They did a documentary on TV re Speedferries and yes the craft suffered engine problems during the making of the documentary. We werent actually on the Speedferries one Colette, not that I remember, but were on the Norman Arrow of LD LInes. But I remember the excitement, and its only a couple of years ago, at the revival of the link to Boulogne by conventional ferry, this was prior to the seacat..
Here are a few pictures...taken by Barry W-S as I remember onboard the inaugural press launch crossing...
This first one above has that man about town and ace forumite Pauli Watkins with Robin Doddridge of DHB. All delighted about the new link to Boulogne.
Here we have ColetteB with tourism busy bee Roger Walkden, with Boulogne in the background. Roger would later produce a leaflet enticing the Boulonaise to come to Dover in co-operation with LD Lines.
Farewell to a cold looking Boulogne as the ship returned home. You can see the glorious cathedral atop the hill. I didnt get there on the day but I'm sure the pix were taken by Barry W-S. Unfortunately dont have it listed in the files.
Sadly this service didnt last either. The dock lies forlorn in Boulogne awaiting the next attempt.
