Vic that's an excellent idea. Just imagine the fun you could have with a huge wet mackerel and a couple of cod fillets! Just as long as you're careful about the crabs I'm sure it will all be groovy.

Sue, I make no comment other than, folks shouldn't judge the Ann Summers shops until they have actually been inside and looked around.
I pluckd u pthe courage many years ago and visited their Leicester Square branch and was amazed at how tasteful and normal they made what I originally thought, in my ignorance, was just a sex shop.
Prudish values prevent balanced judgement in my view.

Residents should show the gumption that residents in the vicinity of the Alma Take Away did.

There could be lots of reasons why a business closes down, often it's because they're not supplying the right product at the right price for their customer base - wonder what that says about Dover when it can't support a sex shop, ooo-er Missus! Tesco are the experts at getting this right and it's surprising what you can find in there if you look hard enough, including the wet fish.
If any of you ladies are interested, The Hope at Lydden has an Ann Summers party this coming Saturday with topless barmen

I have to declare an interest here, it's my local so means I can't get my regular beer and I'll be sitting at home with a pint of homebrew cider instead.

Holy Spitfires! Get a grip! What would children think if they saw their parents entering a sex-shop? A man and a woman don't need to enter a sex-shop to love each-other. It is completely free and comes from the heart. People ought to enter a church and listen to the Sermon!
If I am a monk, Melissa! I am a normal man!

Alexander - I personally have never seen the need to frequent a sex shop, but all to their own I say and a sex shop can be a perfectly reasonable and legitimate business. It is not exactly a gain for Dover to see such a business close merely for yet another take-away to open.
Its closure could be for many reasons:
a lack of demand (I suspect not that given the lack of competition in the town)
under capitalisation leading to the inability to service suppliers and HMRC (quite possible in a recession and a very common problem that nearly all small businesses are up against)
a loss of interest by the shop owner (quite possible)
moving on to bigger and better premises (in which case good luck to them)
It is sad to see any (legitimate) business close.

Still, Barry, I can express my personal opinion concerning sex shops when the subject comes up, and I hold by what I stated and will not be converted!
Is checking her diary ................ sat the 7th lol
Alex im not going to battle with you as i feel im out of my league please remember EVERYONE to their own beliefs. I feel saddened at so much prudency here .

Barry, you omiited crushing business rates, the bane of every Dover shopkeeper/owner.
Alexander, you are right to hold to your beliefs, but as Barry says, each to their own. We live in a tolerant society thankfully. But, perhaps your opinion has been formed without experience, as mine originally was? As for what the children see and hear, we cannot stop that, it's life.
Melissa, rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Howard, I think the Alma Cafe closed for a number of reasons. I understand the council was made aware that they were in breach of their license (i.e. as cafe only and not a take-away)

So what was wrong with just applying for a licence for a takeaway service ?
