HMMMM £77k pa and a seat in Lords= REWARD.
MPs stepping down.= No action.
MPs resigning. = No action.
MPs paying back. = No action.
Admission of guilt. = No action.
You put one little foot wrong as a member of the public and your deep in the poo poo. =
.
Is this a one way system or what.
grass grows by the inches but dies by the feet.

I see that 3 Conservatives have fallen on their swords, one more expected to soon with more to follow. At least the Conservative clear out is well under way.
DC is not allowing a small thing like rules get in the way of getting rid of the worse of those who have done wrong, even if they are inside the rules. These three have at least had the decency to stand down without fuss.
What about Blears then Brown - what is it today, protecting her or sacking her, and then what will it be tomorrow.....
Lets face it Brown lacks the strength to get rid of those Labour MPs who merely worked the system within the rules and so he keeps repeating his 'rules' caveat.

Ian - there has been action with Conservative MPs writing cheques to pay back claims that are now retrospectively seen as excessive even if within the 'rules'. The worse will not remain Conservative MPs either, that is clear.
It is appalling that there is little sign of any kind of real legal action against those who fiddled the taxman or committed fraud.

barry
we had another one tonight, think his name was steen.
safe seat in the west country, spent our money on his "mansion".
he said the same thing, about him being less in the trough than others.
most of us thought that the yellow waistcoat brigade had disappeared decades ago, along with their attitude.
the problem lies with "safe seats", both labour and tories have them in abundance, hence once the mp gets their feet under the table the plundering starts.
until a few weeks ago they thought it would go on for ever.

Steen was one of the three I mentioned, howard another, Viggers has stepped down directly at DC's request. There is one other now, who has been picked up by the press, but it seems he made a genuine paperwork error that was corrected soon after it was made and he did not 'flip' his home.
I am sure that on all sides there are cases of simple mistakes that are reflecting badly on those who made them being mis-interpreted. There are enough snouts in troughs though that make things very difficult for these people, however honest, to repair their reputations. All are tarnished by this scandal.

Another tory wasted £20,000 of our money on news today
Whether they be Tory/labouyr/lib dem those that have crossed the line should be selected, but it shouldnt stop there, theres a move now by a labour peer to reduce the number of MP's only thing with that is they become even more remote
So theres lots of challenges ahead, lots to sort out, but they have to get it right, not short term measures as DCa is doing although this is good, but strong support for a radical change to all this outdated and easily corruptable system
ON ANOTHER SUBject
interesting to hear the Greens MEP
saying the green party wants to abolish the queen and all that goes with it !!!
any thoughts ????????

I have just read a piece written by a New York Times reporter. It really is interesting to see how they are viewing what is going on, despite the somewhat odd American view of what the UK is actually like...
here is a link if you are interested.
