I do sincerely hope you are right, Ross. It is not easy to levy constructive criticism on DDC. They seem impervious to it. Even being critical on here can lead to calls to go and live elsewhere or, in the worst extreme, bans from posting.
There is nothing wrong with pointing out where our current Tory hegemony on DDC have shown woeful disregard for the town centre and continue to do so. My pet hate (the Farthingloe development by CGI) is a prime example of grossly misplaced priorities.

Most of the grotty properties around Bench St (including the Crypt) are owned by Baystore Ltd. This is a company controlled by David Schreiber, whose former kitchens company bears his name. A quick search of Companies House reveals that he is a director of over 80 companies so I don’t suppose he loses much sleep over his Dover properties.
A notable exception is no. 9 the fish & chip shop (very good quality and value, by the way) which is owned by Silvio Macari and his missus.

Seriously on the basis of the conversations Dover Big Local have been having with DDC, since Cllr Morris took over as leader, I believe that they are beginning to change, becoming much more willing to have constructive dialogue, to engage and even listen to residents and they do now seem to want to have a positive impact on Dover. Of course this new approach will take time to filter through all the officers and some may even rail against it and try to derail it as it shakes their cosy lives, but those I deal with are buying into it and trying to play their part

We can but hope Ross, those "cosy lives" certainly need a shake up.

That’s good to know Ross. Did your new friend Keith tell you what they are planning to do with the building next to Funky Monkey, which they currently own?

At last the site is being cleared but there is no indication of what will be done to the site.

After all this time something should be done leaving the area to rot and crumble is a complete disgrace to the memory of those who so tragically died.
The historical part is obviously not really that important or it would not have been left the way it is for so many years.
Definitely time for DDC and DTC to pull their proverbial finger out and bring pressure to bear on the site owners and sort out this sad eyesore.

I thought agreement had been reached with the owners of the buildings on that corner to be demolished. There has been talk over the years of a small memorial garden which would be a suitable place for a plaque, if not put it on the building that replaces it rather than a subway that smells of urine on a bad day.

Plans are well in advance and subway plaque will be in place on 27th March 11an
Although I'm. Not part of the organisation it has a number of interested parties including ex fire fighters
A lot of work has gone into this by cllr wanstall
Surprised the amount of hoops you have to jump through just to put a plaque in place

Although not exactly on the Crypt site, the google aerial view shows what appears to be a car dumping ground.

That whole area to Queen Street is a disgrace to the town really.

That area is behind a wooden hoarding now. The site is occupied by an Egyptian gentleman called Mohammed who has the premises formerly occupied by the Polish shop in Bench St, of which the site in question is the back yard. Over the last several months he has cleared most of the rubbish but still works in a number of the cars parked in there. His wife is a Swiss pastry chef who is planning to open up a bakery/ deli in the former shop.

Thanks for the info.
It would be nice to see that whole made use of.
When was Queen Street cleared? The 1970's?

Only thing i can remember in Queen st was the arcade, would have been behind The Dutchess on the grass area, would have been early 70s when it went,as for the google of the car park it had quite a few scrap looking cars in there and a couple of old knackered caravans that looked like they was being lived in.Havent been past there recently so dont know what its like at the moment.
