Has anyone seen the Dour stream lately?
Its so hard to see any water at all in certain places you would'nt know there was a stream there at all.
Any opinions?

Not being a waterbaby can't give any reasonable explanation..but could it have anything to do with the construction of flats off Tower St ie upsetting the water table. If not it's probably the rubbish that mindless morons toss into the Dour on a daily basis.

Nowt to do with that Marek.
It's that overgrown in places you can't see the water or the wild life.
So much for maintaining the river thats now become a stream.

The pond level and river level is down at Crabble Corn Mill, so much so that we have had to close down the generators over the last few days.
I think there must be some water extraction happening further up river. Water Companies may be as it often happens at this time of year, however with the rain we have had I can not understand why.

Could it be that some enrepreneur is siphoning off the water to a new bottling plant upstream, if so, keep an eye out for 'Dour River Water'

The water may be good enough you never know, but one thing for sure it is not the Mill.

You got that so very right Howard.
They sort of like stormed in, did a few bits and bobs then left it to go out of control
and OVERGROW. has anyone seen them this year?

Ian I have just come back the river flow should now be some what better, have taken the muck away from the grill, the park keeper asked me not to put it on the banks I do not know how long it will take before it is blocked again, but it will not stay clean.

Just walked round the Mill Pond and it is still a good 3 inches lower than normal. There are silt patches drying out near the edges on the far side and in one area we have had a team in today try to clear silt away to allow some water to get there.
Ian you may be right about the overgrowth of plantation but as you are aware the Mill is up stream and the water is low there, so there must be some extraction of water going on by the water authorities. As I said it is normal for this time of year but with the rain we have had I am surprised it is this bad.

Fair comment Vic, I don't suppose the DDC pay him alot anyway.
Harry, someone knows the answer, but please remember that to know that you must belong to the secret society.
for the last two weeks I have been working on my own, the work has been back breaking but I have enjoyed it, the difference I have made is unbelievable. I have another 3 weeks to go before my contract is up then I have to sign on the dole again.
God how I hate that
Any way it looks like our river or stream ( depending how you look at it) is doomed now. some MAIN RIVER STATUS. I wish it had never happened.
Overgrown and not cared for any more.

this sounds like when bureacracy takes over.
vic has pointed out that the parkie has reported problems about the river to the council.
we all believe that the environment agency are responsible.
the EA said a long while ago that they are responsible for the ecology of the river and DDC for any rubbish.
i have a sneaking feeling that this problem will cause a few memos to fly about but nothing to happen.
just as an extra to the debate, have any on the spot fines ever been issued by the police to our lager lovers who regularly recycle their cans and bottles in the river?

It's not just crazy Barry, it's bloody rediculous.
WHY make it Main River status, do a few bits and bobs and then leave it to overgrow and look bloody awful. I'm not frustrated mate just plain ANGRY.
I suppose the E.A thought all the difference would be made by 8 or so voulunteers getting in the river once a month mid week and cleaning up a bit. but what about the weeds?
