14:589277Maggie SK Have already asked the question from the Sun to see if the real Francis rossi would perhaps visit. I have not yet had a response, but will keep asking anyway.
A VERY good friend of mine once told me a great saying.
"NO PRESS IS BAD PRESS"
Sid Perkins I think you are right.
If anything it raises the profile of Dover, yes it may look as though we are all quite foolish people, but the same person also told me.
"TODAY'S NEWS, TOMORROWS CHIP PAPER"
I think if the real Francis Rossi would agree to come to Dover for say 2009 carnival, then Dover will see the benefit.

15:049278I think some of you are coming round to my way of thinking, but you do not have to say that

15:119279Vic I have asked the same question. I think you really should leave it alone to be honest, and let someone else deal with it.
I am not saying you did anything wrong. You believed this blokes lies, and in turn led others to believe you. It's nothing to be ashamed of.
We have all been on the receiving end of that kind of thing, maybe not on the same scale, but at some point in our lives we have probably all been lied to and taken that person to be true to their word.
All I want to know now is who this guy gave the money to, and also who leaked this to the press in the first place especially after it is over a year old.

15:149280OH Vic please don't now try and make us think that the whole thing was done so you could get us the real Francis Rossi.

15:269285Come on you lot
At least Vic tries to do things for the town, maybe not how most of us would do it
many times he fails
this time he was taken for a ride
But at least he tries

15:279286I spoke to Mike Webb today and he said that no Council money was presented by this man to any organisation,if this was to be done it would be presented by the Mayor or the Chairman of Finance. Some people were taken in by this man, when I met him at the Carnival with Mary Graham we were not convinced,I spoke to Mary yesterday and she is sure she called Vic 2 days after the Carnival and said that she didn't think it was him.It is clear that Several Town Cllrs were taken in by him and if they weren't why didn't they do some research or check the S.Q. web site where the pictures of Francis Rossi will show that this man had the craggy looks but was missing abou 1ft in height and a long pony tail.
Now of course many of the Cllrs and I was not a Town Councillor not claim they were not taken in by him, shame they didn't say so at the time or even reinforced thier feelings until Vic did realise that he was being conned. It can happen to anyone at anytime,we are all conned at sometime,i am conned out of money by my Daughters all the time,my only advice to Vic is don't claim credit were credit is not due,and if anyone gets the real Francis Rossi here......please....check his passport before you announce it to the world.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

I have e-mailed this person back who uses
francisrossi@btinternet.com as an e-mail address and have asked them to explain themselves.

18:569309So tell me Bern, what makes your attitude anymore wanted than mine? As a member of this forum I am just as entitled to a view as you are so please keep your remarks to the subject in question. If I ever need your opinion of me I will ask for it - but that time won't happen I can assure you.
You ask who I am - I am a member of Doverforum, no more or less important than any other member. If you don't like what I say - don't read it - simple really.
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

20:059314Get a grip and get over yourself - I expressed my opinion and you yours. Yours was less courteous, obviously............I repeat, Vic has never been discourteous or personally abusive, and he always tries. We need more of that, more humour, more can-do. Less vitriol and less judgmental defensive knee jerk stuff.

20:509317from bits i have read, victor paid out of his own pocket to wine and dine "mr rossi".
if that is true, who else would shell out money from their own pocket to entice a star to get involved with a dover event.
the fact that mr rossi was not mr rossi is neither here nor there

21:059320So it is seeming that no one lost out....apart from the "con man" who shelled out £1000 of his own money to give to a local worthwhile cause.
Why are so many insulted about this? I don't get what all the excitement is about
I know a million ways to always pick the wrong thing to say

21:339321that seems to be the whole story jeanette.
the bloke had a few glasses of cheap plonk, maybe a susage roll, and gave a large sum of money to a very worthy cause.
a lot better than about 4 or 5 years ago when a another chap came down here, pretended to be connected to tony blair, gave us all a drab lecture on how to get things done in dover, had a few meals and disappeared.
a load of people fell for it.
i don't remember him shelling out dosh to anyone though.
