Nightmare this morning, I managed to get out of Dover, but not before passing a foreign HGV that was stuck at the junction of Parsons Way / Pilgrims Way!!!!! He'll need a helicopter to lift him out of there....
Totally unacceptable as there are plans in place to keep Dover clear, they just haven't got put in place or done properly!

My early dog patrol (i.e. 'er indoors) reports that nothing is moving in Maison Dieu Road. That will mess up the bus timetable!

With the A2 closed any locals trying to be clever and avoid Whitfield Hill are coming down Melbourne Avenue, but that's just blocked as well.
There's been an out of service bus sat at the junction of Old Park Road and Brookfield Avenue for ages this morning (finally moved). These bus drivers who continually use the route through the houses in and out of town should be made to keep to the A256.

[Natalie Elphicke] says the gridlock highlights the need for upgrades to the Whitfield roundabout and A2" Hm. Yes, well, maybe at the margin. However, prevention is better than cure. What we're seeing is the traditional 'traffic is greater than ferry uplift capacity' syndrome and the usual problem of where to store the excess traffic, exacerbated by not spotting the problem before it took root.
What isn't going to help in future is Natalie's Guston site for customs clearance of outbound freight; what you want is traffic ready to go as soon as a ferry is available, not encouraging traffic to enter Kent and leave the uncertainty of clearance until it gets within spitting distance of the port. On a tiny site that has every chance of being oversubscribed and fouling up the second main route that avoids the town road network. It is island mentality of the worst kind in my opinion. And (for Ray's benefit) doesn't happen to this extent in the EU.

The build up of all port traffic should be halted a long time before it reaches anyway near Dover.
After all these years whenever we have had problems everything planned and executed so far seems to be a complete waste of time just as AndyPol said in #481.

Just seen the following on FB, shows how ineffectual or pointless a councillor can be yet still has the nerve to keep standing.
Cllr Nigel Collor
It is obvious that Dover TAP has failed and Operation Brock can’t cope. As most of you are no doubt aware ALL roads into Dover this morning were at virtually at a standstill and had been since yesterday.
So, this morning, we had the M20 Brock unable to cope. The A20 TAP full and hardly moving. The A2 Jubilee Way virtually was at a standstill with the queue extending back to the Whitfield roundabout. The A256 from Whitfield Hill to Townwall Street was almost stationary. The B2011 – Folkestone Road and York Street were also extremely busy with traffic trying to get through.
This all could have been foreseen as there are historic figures that can predict when traffic will be excessive even if we look past the excuses that the P&O situation and one DFDS ship is out of action. Has anyone given a thought to the relief staff struggling to get to work at the Port to relive colleagues who have been no doubt taking the brunt of the pressure all night.
I feel that the people of Dover have been seriously let down by Kent Police and the Kent Resilience Forum who could have taken some action before Dover once again got well and truly shafted.
Having spent the past almost 25 years fighting to improve Dover’s traffic situation it is always the same answer even from successive Government Ministers of both major parties – we’ll cope with it when it arises, but add this weeks situation to a couple of years ago when the French closed their borders and there is no improvement – quite the opposite.
I reached out to the KRF, leaders of Kent County and Dover District Councils and our MP this morning at 8am and have been keeping abreast of this issue all day. Thank you to our MP, Natalie Elphicke, for standing up for Dover and pressing the Kent Resilience Forum and transport minister to secure better active roads management for Dover.

Thank heavens he's been 'keeping abreast of this issue all day'. Where would we have been without him?

Can’t believe the Tory faithful still rally round our useless MP who takes every opportunity to say how much she stands up for Dover. If she’d really stood up for Dover she’d have done something about TAP and how the residents of Aycliffe have suffered. But presumably that isn’t a big enough photo opportunity.
Perhaps whoever agreed to grant permission for MacDonalds to operate from the Whitfield roundabout might like to take responsibility for the perpetual chaos there everyday!

She's lobby fodder, Arthur.

She is like Collor completely useless and there to simply fill the Conservative slot on the last appropriate ballot paper, easy when there is no or little active competition.

Every time I hear NE speak, she bangs on about "dualling the A2", which is what CE used to bang on about. Rather misses the immediate here and now.

There is not a single politician, national or local, that can take any credit for "sorting out" this situation over the weekend. They just spout on about irrelevant rubbish when it is others working hard to try and find solutions. They are just an irritation......
