Moving at a crawl town bound on the Folkestone Rd at present. The 91 bus was using the Folkestone Road, I believe there was a serious accident earlier in Alkham Valley which would explain it but most strange of all a 63 bus on the same road turning into Elms Vale Road.

Could this be an early indication of how the Irish/U.K./EU land bridge could turn out if Dover Calais was subjected to French Meddling?

Came home from work via the Whitfield roundabout, which was 3/4 blocked because of lorries stopped across the junctions.
The policing of junctions and roundabouts is these situations is usually useless. Some on-the-spot fines wouldn't go amiss!

French meddling? You do like a joke, Bob. Didn't you know we've taken back control?

Well yes, but... "The Home Office must take any steps necessary to keep the country safe. But that shouldn’t mean Dover gets gridlocked from traffic delays @Port_of_Dover. The traffic schemes to #KeepDoverClear didn’t work this time. Let’s learn lessons and put it right."

Something similar to Dover TAP needs to be put in place near the Shepherdswell junction on the A2, otherwise port-bound traffic will merely divert down the A2, causing chaos like that of the last few days.

Forgive me for mixing threads, but this is what a no deal Brexit boils down to - are the good folk of Dover prepared to accept traffic chaos on a daily basis, providing they think the EU is responsible? It's a huge political calculation. Will you sit for 50 minutes trying to get from Folkestone Road to Tesco - and say "Oh well, I don't mind, as it's the fault of the French"

When DHB suggested that, the local MP of the time was against it. As for Brexit, I doubt that the presence or absence of a 'deal' will make any difference - Brexit implementation will either cause delays or it won't.

There is no doubt that brexit will cause local delays and exacerbate those caused by seasonal peaks and other incidents. Various national and local government reports are quite clear on the subject. A trade deal which obviates the need for tariffs will help in a small way but we are leaving the single market and the customs union with all that that implies. Smartfreight will help but the chances of it being in any way effective in time for 2021 are minimal. Dovorians need to get their heads around that, pro-brexit or agin it.
It won't bother this government terribly because the seem to think it a price worth paying. Compared with the damage that will be done nationally it probably is pretty small beer anyway.

France has announced a 48hr ban on all human handled freight!
Prepare for total gridlock in and around Dover.

But of course the police, highways agency, etc will act quickly to ensure the traffic builds up outside Dover, won't it???
