I asked her to come over on to myside tonight , and i think she is siting there with the lights off thinking about that.

The Magna Carta was NOT a constitution, more a set of rules laid down by the Barons to control the excesses of King John. Once John was dead the Magna Carta began slipping into oblivion.

Sid the Magna Carta was signed in 1215 which is the beginning of English legal history. You are correct regarding the barons but it also gave certain rights to people one for instance being the writ of habeous corpus. It was a set of rules applicable to everybody and n itself brought about the principles of common law.
My history teacher at secondary school was none other than Mr Ken Weetch, campaign leader for Neil Kinnock! He was a super teacher and made his subject interesting and fun for his pupils. Just a shame the other cronies didn't follow his style of education.
Bedsocks! Guess it depends on the colour, fluorescent green should do the trick.

Thanks Dave for the fuller explanation, and of course you are almost totally correct. However, MC was not the beginnings of English legal history, but a landmark moment in it. I might be wrong, but the writ of habeus ciorpus is about the only remaining clause, although introduced because John had a habit of locking up those who disagreed with him until such time he got bored, they died or were bumped off. The vicitms were usually upper social strata, not mere plebs like us.
Vic, King John was in the King John party.

Yes Sid you are correct in saying that the writ of habeous corpus is the sole remaining clause. The reigning monarch now is above the law and cannot be prosecuted, she represents the law itself and must endorse every new statute that Parliament passes, she is the law. The Queen's judges are her representatives and once appointed cannot be removed very easily and certainly not by Parliament.

Re. The man in the white suit, Martin Bell. I got his book out from the library yesterday.
"The Truth that Sticks: New Labour's Breach of Trust"
He won the Tatton seat of Neil Hamilton in 1997. Labour and Lib.Dems did not stand.

Agreed Vic - Unless Brown bottles it again though. there is always that possibilty.
Howard - I have been saying exactly that in my competition post, what about entries from you and Vic then, email me at
barry@regency-ifa.co.uk with election prediction in the title. Two chances to win, percentages for main 3 parties and number of seats for them. Lunch at Blakes for two winners!
Competition will be closed down when Brown visits HMQ

i really have no idea barry, i only bet on what i know.
just as an example i was reading an article from a chap that is a political analyst for leading bookmakers, so he must be very clued up.
a brief precis would be as follows;
1) no chance of a red majority or having more seats than the blues.
2) people in general are sick of the reds, want change, but not a change for the worse.
3) the polls mean very little as the marginals do not always reflect the overall opinion poll averages.
4) no-one knows how the expenses scandal will hit individual constituencies, his view was that even if the errant MP is not standing, his/hers replacement would be tainted.

on the subject of may 6th, i named that as the most likely date about a year ago.

I am still looking at the winning post only.
Only this week I saw my photo up in some shop windows i have not seen the Blues or reds in shop windows, the time has come for a big change and we in Dover are going to lead the way.

Howard May 6th has been the most likely date since Brown bottled out in 2007....
Nothing of what you have said about the bookies is new. We know the advantage that the Conservatives hold in the marginals and that data has been factored into the Andy Cooke swing calculator that I use, but most media stick to the outdated Uniform National Swing model.
The determination to get rid of this failed and discredited Government will be the main driver at the election.
Mike Smithson, the polling expert from politicalbetting.com yesterday placed a £200 bet on Labour getting less than 30% of the vote.
As for the impact of the expenses scandal, there is some truth in what you say but we do have variouis by-election and local election results as a guide on that so it is not entirely unknown territory.
As for the competition I am not asking you to place a bet so much as make a guess.
